Job Details:
JOB TITLE: Customer Service Representative
CONTRACT DURATION: 13 Weeks
SHIFT: M-F, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
LOCATION: San Diego, CA
ONBOARDING TIME: Expect 3-5 weeks from offer acceptance to start date.
Job Summary:
The Customer Service Specialist I is responsible for administering the Collection Philosophy of Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, specifically managing self-pay accounts. This role involves working directly with families to assist with financial assistance applications, establish and monitor payment plans, and provide clarity on account information. The incumbent will handle incoming calls, resolve billing complaints, and ensure accounts are updated with the most accurate insurance information. Other duties include checking Medi-Cal eligibility and applying share of costs as needed.
Responsibilities:
• Manage self-pay balances after insurance payments.
• Assist families with financial assistance applications and establish payment plans according to hospital policy.
• Respond to incoming calls, clarify account details, and resolve billing issues.
• Check Medi-Cal eligibility, apply share of costs, and update insurance information.
• Monitor payment plan compliance and take appropriate follow-up actions.
• Address and resolve patient complaints related to billing in line with policies and procedures.
Requirements:
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent (minimum).
• 2 years of experience in a call center environment.
• Strong knowledge of insurance eligibility, payments, and authorizations.
• Experience with accounts receivable processes
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Application Requirements (due at time of phone screen with recruiter):
· Resume with last seven years of work history if applicable - all work history gaps of 90+ days must be explained.
· Copy of diploma for highest level of completed education.
· Two manager/supervisor references who you have worked with in the last two years.
· Upcoming requested time off for the duration of the contract.
· Interview availability for the next 7-10 days.
· Documentation of Covid vaccination or medical/religious exemption.
