Job Summary

Director, Media and Public Relations (External Communications) is accountable for continually raising OneAmerica's profile in the external marketplace by way of owned & paid media strategies, targeted advertising and thought leadership assets; connecting our brand to targeted audience segments and building meaningful brand awareness; translating customer, stakeholder and industry insights into action; and working collaboratively as part of a matrixed marketing and communications team.

Primary Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

This role leads a team of public relations and thought leadership professionals to deliver planning, execution and measurement of external communications initiatives across various media and distribution channels in support of enterprise strategic objectives and priorities.

  • 35% - Organize and lead the external communications team to achieve an integrated Line of Business and Enterprise Market Visibility Strategy
  • 25% - Develop and mature capabilities, through people development, processes and resources, in support of function objectives- including media outlet strategies, target publications
  • 15% - Build and optimize enterprise messaging aligned to value proposition of OneAmerica and our lines of business
  • 10% - Proactively and reactively support reputation management endeavors in partnership with cross functional teams
  • All other:

    • Optimize our media monitoring strategy and measurement models
    • Ready our executives for media engagement
    • Formalize media relations and thought leadership roundtables
    • Maintain knowledge of industry and communication trends, as well as regulatory and legal guidelines
    • Support and constantly work to improve our OneAmerica Way for Media Relations
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

Job Requirements

Required Education and/or Certifications

  • B.A./B.S. in a related field, such as English, Communications, Journalism or Marketing

Recommended Education and/or Certifications

  • PRSA accreditations
  • Lean Six Sigma training - yellow belt or higher

Required Work Experience

  • 10+ years of communications experience
  • Demonstrated passion for storytelling that drives strategic objectives
  • Demonstrated experience using data and metrics to back up assumptions and evaluate outcomes.
  • Or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background

Salary Band: 07B

This selected candidate will be expected to work hybrid in Indianapolis, IN.The candidate will also be expected to physically return to the office in CA, WI, IN or ME as business needs dictate or for team-building and collaboration.
