Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and forward-thinking experienced full-stack engineer to join our expanding team. You will contribute to developing solutions that address diverse requirements in the healthcare technology space. In this position, you will engage in various projects, playing a pivotal role in ensuring that the final outcomes align with the relevant business needs.

As a engineer, your responsibilities will encompass enhancing our React front-end application and developing our Elixir-based backend APIs. You will tackle intriguing challenges, such as expanding the React front-end, crafting intuitive user interfaces and workflows, and creating scalable APIs. We are seeking a seasoned, product-focused engineer with the ability to efficiently lead essential components of our application stack within a dynamic, small team.

To excel as a engineer at blockit, you should possess the capability to seamlessly integrate new functionalities into the existing systems architecture, employing a thoughtful approach to refactoring and enhancing pre-existing code. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Translate client requirements into actionable implementation plans. 
• Collaborate with customers, the product team, stakeholders, UX experts, and the Blockit platform engineering team to conceptualize and craft solutions for complex problems. 
• Lead initiatives, offer guidance to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and actively contribute to shaping solution delivery.
• Conduct thorough code reviews, and actively contribute to the growth of those around you. Demonstrate strong leadership on projects within the team, showcasing your ability to design and build systems of moderate complexity.
• Establish, educate, and mentor fellow engineers on design patterns and fundamental engineering principles, further solidifying your role as a valuable leader within the team.
• Embrace challenges that encourage continuous learning, utilization of new technologies, and comprehension of intricate relationships with back-office systems. 
• Provide thought leadership and advocate for systems engineering methods, instilling your passion for technology to inspire and motivate on a daily basis.
• Take measured risks, learning valuable lessons from both successes and failures, and apply these insights to address the next challenge in the pipeline. Foster collaboration across the organization to establish cohesive and intelligent designs, ensuring robust interactions and minimizing the code footprint necessary for feature delivery.
• Scrutinize project constraints to analyze alternatives, mitigate risks, and, when needed, engage in process re-engineering to ensure optimal outcomes.
• Gain recognition for your technical contributions, extending beyond your immediate organization and even blockit. Whether it's your proficiency in Elixir or collaboration with customer development teams, your impact is felt beyond internal boundaries.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities:

• Solid software development foundation including competencies in data structures, algorithms and software design
• Demonstrated track record of being a change agent, leaving every team and process better than you found it
• Demonstrated experience designing complex technical solutions for cloud based software platforms

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent relevant experience.
• 2 years experience designing software and building applications using: 
  • Microservices built in Elixir, connected using GraphQL.
  • React on the frontend (not even a single line jQuery, phew!)
  • Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform, Docker, Postgres.
  • Github and CircleCI for Development/CD.
  • REST APIs
• Knowledge in aspects of documentation, wireframing and presentation required
• Experience with healthcare technologies utilizing HL7 and FHIR preferred
• Experience working in a SaaS, healthcare technology/IT, or healthcare B2B environment highly preferred 
• Experience working in a startup environment is desirable
