About the role:

Gen3 is seeking a Network Engineer to actively plan and coordinate computer and network system design, installation, and connectivity to ensure stable, scalable, redundant, and secure 24/7 network operations.

Location: Hybrid remote, local to Annapolis, MD. Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM. Work is 3 days onsite and 2 days remote. 

What you'll do:

  • Lead, schedule, and oversee the activities with other team members to resolve end-user hardware and software problems promptly and accurately.
  • Testing, deployment, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and documentation of a statewide network, utilizing industry best practices for security, disaster recovery and business continuity, change control, and client support.
  • Assist in the creation of robust network designs, acting as the escalation point of contact, and lead engineer for implementations and provide ongoing support and maintenance.
  • Oversee the configuration, maintenance, and documentation of routers, switches, wireless controllers, load balancers, WAN optimizers, and management and security appliances.
  • Design, develop, analyze, troubleshoot, and document computer networks and infrastructure.
  • Develop and analyze network designs and protocols including prototyping and assessments.
  • Perform planning, engineering, forecasting and implementation, and identification of resource requirements for network systems.
  • Lead or assist in major network projects to support capacity growth, upgrades, and new products/features, and integration.
  • Evaluate current network systems and recommend changes in maintenance and systems standards, and train support personnel on the conversion, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Apply in-depth up-to-date knowledge of standards, guidelines, industry trends and similar for LAN, WAN, Wireless, Data Center, Cloud networking interconnection.
  • Drive improvements in network process, efficiency, and standardization, ensuring security compliance, change control processes and adherence to standards.
  • Provide upper-tier diagnosis, isolation, and resolution of network problems, identifying and documenting root cause, proactively identifying potential issues in the production environment and recommending solutions.
  • Develop comprehensive graphical and text-based documentation and effectively manage the implementation process from design to acceptance.
  • Generate weekly status reports, including project progress, key milestones, and tasks accomplished.
  • Host weekly team status meetings/calls or on an as-needed basis.
  • Lift personal computers, printers, scanners, and other equipment associated with a standard computer workstation.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

What you'll need:

  • Associate degree in information technology or a related field.
  • 8 years of technical experience in IT networking.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Enterprise or Security Certification.

What's desired to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field.
  • 10 years of technical experience in IT networking.
  • Certifications desired: Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) in Enterprise Infrastructure or Security Certification, Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security (PCNSE) Certification, Prisma Certified Cloud Security Engineer (PCCSE) Certification from Palo Alto Networks.
