To achieve this mission, Freenome is developing next-generation blood tests to detect cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages using our multiomics platform and machine learning techniques. Our first blood test will detect early-stage colorectal cancer and advanced adenomas.

About the Role

You will participate in the development of an analytical framework to improve blood sample quality for biomarker discovery studies and contribute to our mission of early detection and intervention in human disease. As a (Senior) Research Associate / Associate Scientist in Development, you will contribute to protein assay development and execution of experiments, manually or on robotic platforms. You will work closely with scientists and computational biologists to rapidly iterate on improvements to the protein assay that can enhance our end-to-end test performance. You will also work with process engineers and technology transfer scientists to implement efficient automated workflows and improve experimental and clinical throughput in a regulated high-throughput environment.

Your contribution:

  • Contribute to the development, quality control and optimization of protein assays, while diligently applying Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Identify and implement process improvements across the lab by thinking critically about the execution of all experiments.
  • Gather high-quality data, take detailed notes, and openly communicate on lessons learned while performing experiments.
  • Participate in experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting efforts

  • Collaborate with engineers and clinical laboratory members to transition development protocols into clinical production, including automation, validation experiments, Quality Control, and SOP development.

Your background, perspective and experience:Ā 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related field.
  • 2+ years (Research Associate) or 4+ years (Senior Research Associate) of full-time laboratory experience, preferably in a regulated laboratory environment (CLIA, GLP, GCP, IVD)
  • Prior experience measuring proteins with antibody-based methods (e.g. ELISAs), particularly on multiplex analytical platforms (e.g. Luminex, MSD).
  • Prior experience with Protein assay development, including quality control
  • Proven track record of running successful experiments, preparing data for review, and giving effective scientific presentations.
  • Ability to perform basic data analysis and to be critical of results obtained during experimentation.
  • Clear communications skills and ability to work with team members in the same and adjacent disciplines.
