What Will You Be Doing?

The Senior Manager of Payroll is responsible for all aspects of the payroll team's operations to ensure timely processing of all biweekly, semi-monthly, union and non-union payrolls. Responsible for all local, state and federal tax reporting and compliance.

Major responsibilities include actively supporting departmental and company-wide initiatives and positioning team and team resources to successfully achieve those goals. Responsible for hiring, training and employee development, establishing and managing departmental and company priorities, while ensuring existing policies and procedures are followed. This position will also act as an escalation point in resolving complex outstanding issues with internal and external business partners and overall responsible for audit compliance and business controls.

Essential Functions

  • Leadership: Responsible for establishing priorities and workload for payroll team, including all hiring, training, performance management and employee development to ensure the timely, accurate and compliant processing of all Pilot, Flight Attendant, union and non-union payrolls. Works closely with other company leadership and main contact for business partners as needed. (40%)
  • Compliance: Completes necessary governmental payroll related registrations (federal, state and local) and ensures compliance with governmental regulations, maintaining records and filing tax reports. Responsible for timely setup of payroll tax accounts (Federal, FICA, FUTA, all State withholdings, SDI local withholding and SUI tax accounts) as required. Trains department and ensures compliance with all SOX procedures. (20%)
  • Auditing: Audits all payroll tax information by pay period to ensure compliance and taxes are set-up correctly. Responsible for all audits, business controls and reporting related to Payroll operations. Trains staff on departmental SOX compliance procedures. (10%)
  • Projects and Initiatives: Is the thought leader and manager of payroll related projects which include, but are not limited to automation, payroll systems, annual W-2 process, tax processes and improved payroll operations. (15%)
  • Policies and Procedures: Develops and implements all payroll and payroll-related policies and procedures. (10%)
  • Problem Resolution: Investigates and resolves escalated and complex payroll matters as required. (5%)

Other Functions

  • Prepare confidential payrolls.
  • Team with other departments to facilitate special pay processing needs.
  • Responsible for implementation of process or system changes, and for documenting and updating of Payroll procedures.
  • Oversee testing on the UKGPro system to ensure accuracy of Payroll processing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration or related or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive Payroll processing, tax and management experience, including 5+ years in a supervisory role
  • Strong multi-state payroll and tax experience with working knowledge of taxable and non-taxable wages
  • Year end, W-2 and garnishment experience to meet IRS compliance
  • UKGPro, ADP or other related HRMS experience
  • CPP certification a plus

  • Ability to manage in a fast-paced environment and meet critical deadlines, occasionally working nights and/or weekends as necessary
  • Must work well unpressured and maintain a professional helpful demeanor toward employees, team and vendors
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to prioritize and follow through on projects
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledge of UKGPro or other HCM payroll systems
  • Knowledge of FLSA
