Role Summary
Investigate and develop new CAE techniques, methods, tools and software to improve product development efficiency and correlation. Goal to reduce development iteration loops and time as well as improve correlation to physical testing for all Cosma components.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop global methods, tools and standards for global product simulation team.
  • Check interaction of Cosma standards and methods with customer standards.
  • Align global CAE standards with regional operation teams CAE managers.
  • Rollout Cosma global standard with regional leadership teams (VP, Directors and CAE Manager).
  • Able to work within a Cross Functional Team to further develop Cosmas simulation capabilities.
  • Lead the development of innovative and efficient tools and methods within the process simulation team.
  • Transformation from automation to DoE and machine learning process to improve efficiency and effectiveness of product development time.
  • Correlate all single simulation results on coupon and system level.
  • Transfer technologies, methods and tools to operative simulation team.
  • Interpret and follow project guidelines with minimal follow-up or additional resources needed to complete tasks.
  • Run multiple simulation projects correctly and efficiently to meet all project timelines.
  • Use computer FEA software and equipment (i.e. Ansa/Hypermesh, Nastran, LS-Dyna, Abaqus, nCode, FEMFAT, and optimization-DOE/post-processing tools) to perform engineering simulations.
  • Ensure model and post-processing are completed in accordance with quality requirements, customer specifications, and Cosma standards.
  • Work with cross-functional teams.
  • Correlate experimental data to simulation data. Use production process simulation tools such as weld heat distortion simulation and CFD e-coat simulations.
  • Support development of interface between product and process simulation
  • Write technical reports to explain the FE results and provide recommendations to improve overall design.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Act with honesty and integrity, and make ethical business choices in accordance with Magna's Compliance Policies and Procedures.

Key Qualifications/Requirements
Education - Required: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study
Education - Preferred: Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study
Years of Experience: Minimum three to five (3-5) years of related experience required; five to seven (5-7) years of related experience preferred
Supervisory Experience: None
Licenses and Certifications: None
Other Skills/Experience -Required:
  • Knowledge of FE software such as Ansa/Hypermesh, Nastran, Abaqus, Optistruct, Heeds, LS Dyna, nCode, FEMFAT, optimization tools, and post-processing tools
  • Able to perform linear, non-linear, and dynamic simulations
  • Knowledge of structural requirements for durability, NVH, and crashworthiness
  • Strong theory knowledge in solid mechanics, strength of materials, and dynamics

Other Skills/Experience -Preferred:
  • Process and manufacturing knowledge covering forming, joining, and assembly as well as VSA method knowledge
  • Experience in developing BIW, closures, and chassis components
  • Experience working with TeamCenter PLM
