Applied Research Associates is currently seeking a Wireless Systems Engineer in the Ft. Bragg, North Carolina area (must relocate or commute). Candidates must have an active Secret Security Clearance. This position supports the DOD agency and the salary is competitive.

The Wireless Systems Engineer will support a wide range of engineering responsibilities and be considered an SME in Wireless Systems Engineering. This candidate will provide recommendations and assistance to Government Programs, Project Managers, and Organizational Leadership to ensure a logical sequence of activities and decisions that transform an operational need into a description of system performance parameters and a preferred system configuration.

Tasks performed include but are not limited to the ability to:

  • Develop architecture, build, maintain and troubleshoot tactical wireless networks
  • Implement data models and designs for data access and resolve any linked server issues including replication, capacity, and/or distribution issues related to the network
  • Participate in the generation of policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of related networks, databases, and hardware systems
  • Perform program management functions and conduct oversight of all activities performed by personnel to satisfy the technical requirements
  • Implement security processes as required
  • Support research, engineering, development, and integration
  • Work with performer teams to integrate technologies into Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) and networks that share data between various platforms
  • Support RDT&E for networking that connects user devices, sensors, and robotics
  • Evaluate requirements, customer feedback, and troubleshoot integration for TAK development
  • Coordinate the implementation of TAK integration on the communications system architecture
  • Support integration with ongoing government efforts to aid the transition and operational use of the prototype system
  • Provide test and evaluation support for the project
  • Support tests, exercises, or evaluations and coordinate support with members of the integrated performer team
  • Provide milestone support at test locations, including all aspects of loading, debugging, isolating, configuring, and testing situational awareness tools, systems, and their interfaces
  • Collect, analyze, and report on qualitative and quantitative metrics specified by the customer's evaluation plan

The ideal candidate should have a complete understanding of commonly used information technology engineering methods, practices, procedures, and processes necessary to formulate, justify, and execute the development and fielding of an integrated systems architecture suite hardware and software used to optimize the military mission set. Candidates should have the ability to develop a complete set of architectural views for an enterprise in accordance with the common architecture frameworks.

Wireless Systems Engineer Required Experience:

  • Active Secret Security Clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI Clearance
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher along with 8-10 years of experience. Talented candidates without a BS degree should have equivalent professional experience (13+ years) and demonstrate networking concepts
  • Five (5) years of experience leading/participating in requirements design, diagramming, documentation of technical specifications, and development of configuration management
  • Have formalized information technology training/experience/certification equal to or better than Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Have a complete understanding of wireless network operation and functional working knowledge of data routing operation along with transmission and communications security techniques and procedures
  • The high degree of professionalism

Wireless Systems Engineer Preferred Qualifications:

  • Practical experience in a Special Operations Forces (SOF) environment
  • Experience working with 4/5G LTE networks, Mobile AdHoc Networks (MANET), and servers in virtual environments
