Senior Software Engineer - Marketing Technology

Marketing Technology’s mission is to provide a state of the art platform and measurement capabilities to enable our product and marketing teams to effectively deliver highly personalized and relevant marketing campaigns to the Airbnb community via landing pages on airbnb.com and various communication channels like Email SMS and Push notifications.

The Orchestration and Segmentation Platform team’s mission is to provide state-of-the-art orchestration and segmentation platforms to enable marketing and product teams  to connect with our guest and host community with personalized messaging based on their context lifecycle user traits interests and intent.

The Difference You Will Make:

As a key contributor to Airbnb's Orchestration and Segmentation Team you will leverage the Segmentation Platform to revolutionize how we connect with our community ensuring personalized and meaningful interactions across various user journeys both within and beyond the MarTech sphere. Success in this pivotal role means architecting and enhancing segmentation strategies that lead to significant uplifts in user engagement metrics increased conversion rates and the seamless integration of personalized content across multiple channels and departments. Your efforts will drive forward projects that prioritize strategic impact and user satisfaction setting new standards for data-driven user-centric communication within Airbnb.

A Typical Day:

• Build large scale distributed systems to deliver highly personalized and relevant content and notifications.

• Collaborate with cross-functional partners such as Product Design and Engineers to deliver high-quality products.

• Work closely with other teams within Airbnb to understand their segmentation needs.

• Participate in team wide SCRUM meetings to track progress.

• Participate in resolving technical debt code reviews architectural discussions and technical documentation.

• Participate in various employee resource group events and social events at Airbnb.

Your Expertise:

• 5+ years of industry experience with a BS/Masters or 2+ years with a PhD

• Proficiency in Java (and/or Kotlin)

• Experience with working on large data sets and distributed computing technologies such as Apache Hive Apache Spark and Apache Airflow. Proficiency in using these platforms for developing scalable data processing and workflow orchestration solutions is essential.

• Expertise in database technologies particularly with distributed SQL databases.

• Experience with setting up managing and optimizing these databases for high-performance applications is critical.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and across engineering teams.

• Strong problem solver and have solid production debugging skills.

• Passionate about efficiency availability reliability and system quality.

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites as agreed to with your manager.
