Summary
About the Position: This position is located at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
Duties
Serves as the primary subject matter expert for all diagnostic imaging modalities (ionizing and non-ionizing) and their associated digital systems.
Perform advanced diagnostic medical physics support for modalities such as Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), radiography, mammography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine.
Oversee Quality Control (QC) testing performed by radiology technicians and biomedical engineers on all radiation-producing, detecting, and measuring equipment.
Serve as the Radiation Oncology Department Director and first-line supervisor for subordinate staff.
Direct all clinical and administrative operations within the Radiation Oncology department, ensuring quality of care, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
Lead multidisciplinary care team coordination, including participation in tumor boards, meetings, and treatment planning reviews.
Serve as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for all radiation sources and radioactive materials programs.
Develop and deliver formal radiation safety, MRI safety, and fluoroscopy credentialing training for physicians, technologists, and other staff.

This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Physicist (Diagnostic Radiological Medical):
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physics, or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. The courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing guidance on use of the ionizing and nonionizing equipment, and overseeing procedures for the use and testing of diagnostic radiology equipment including Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computerized Tomography (CT), Ultrasound, and Fluoroscopy at a medical facility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Board Certification in Diagnostic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) is highly desired.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Additional information
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
