Summary About the Position: Serves as a Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) within the Healthcare Business Directorate of Naval Hospital Beaufort. It is an office setting shared by other employees. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:30 A.M - 4:00 P.M. with a 30 minute lunch break. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service Duties Performs the full range of receptionist, record keeping and miscellaneous clerical duties within the healthcare setting. Enters, manipulates and/or retrieves information and data from automated systems as appropriate to the area assigned. Ensures eligibility for care, and contacts Patient Administration for verification. Resolves complaints of a local administrative nature and refers other complaints to the appropriate authorities. Maintains all patients' records, both electronic and paper, according to regulation ensuring each entry contains proper patient and health care provider identification. Types routine correspondence, progress reports, medical statements, memorandums and statistical reports using various automation systems and programs. Receives minimum patient information and provides information to medical personnel. Processes and distributes incoming correspondence, publications, and other documents. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Red Cross. One year trial/probationary period may be required. This position requires the incumbent to lift up to 15 pounds. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. Tier 1: This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment. This position requires a qualified typist (minimum 40 words per minute) Required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire). This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1). performing clerical or reception duties; 2). receiving patients in person or telephonically; and 3). entering patient data into an automated system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
