Job Description

Summary This position will be assigned to the Fitness Center at JBSA Lackland, TX. This is a regular part-time category position with guaranteed 20 hours per week, but may work up to 40hrs/week. Employees appointed to regular category positions are eligible for benefits. Duties Performs a variety of duties and responsibilities in support of the day to day operation of JBSA-Lackland AFB Fitness Centers. Serves as front desk attendant ensuring only authorized patrons use the facility and equipment, and adhere to Fitness Center policy. Greets visitors, answers telephones, makes reservations for classes or use of equipment and facilities, and provides information on scheduled events and classes. Issues sports equipment and completes required documentation for transactions. Inspects returned equipment noting damage. Reports damaged exercise equipment to supervisor. Performs opening and closing procedures of facilities in accordance with written guidelines. Maintains and prepares Fitness Center facilities, grounds and equipment for daily use, programs and special functions. Performs other duties as assigned. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination. Must be able to lift objects weight 50 lbs. unassisted and up to 100 lbs. with assistance. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty. Must possess a current American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and first aid certification or obtain within 30 days of hire. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: This is an entry level position, although no experience required, experience in clerical, office, cash handling or retail sales store work of any kind which demonstrates the ability to perform satisfactorily at the grade level of the position, is desired. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Ability to operate a Point of Sales System and perform basic arithmetic in relation to cash handling. 2. Basic knowledge of fitness equipment and ability to instruct patrons in the use of this equipment. 3. Ability to accurately and clearly communicate fitness center rules and policies to customers. 4. Basic knowledge of computer operations. 5. Ability to amicably interact with staff and patrons. **NOTE: Those qualified applicants who meet both the minimum qualification requirement(s) and highly preferred criteria(s) will be considered best qualified for this position and will be referred to the selecting official(s) first for consideration.
