Who We Are

The Education Division is a group of approximately 50 experienced professionals. We represent diverse backgrounds and viewpoints. The Education Division's current average employee tenure is almost 12 years. We believe people come here and stay because the mission is vital to our nation, the work is challenging and meaningful, and the culture is positive.

The Education Division consists of the following groups: Executive Education (EE), Judicial and Legal Education (JLE), Management and Professional Development Education (MPDE), Probation and Pretrial Services Education (PPSE), the Multimedia Production Group (MPG), and the Administrative Team.

The EE, JLE, MPDE, PPSE, and MPG groups are managed by Assistant Division Directors (ADD) who devise annual program plans and oversee program development, financial matters, staff development, and collaborative efforts with other Education Division groups. The EE, JLE, MPDE, PPSE, and MPG groups include staff responsible for program design, development, and delivery (education attorneys and education specialists) and staff responsible for organizing and executing the administrative, financial, and logistical aspects of programs and projects (program coordinators). Education Division staff may serve as trainers and facilitators alongside other faculty and often guide faculty on how to teach and facilitate effectively. Faculty include judges and court staff, U.S. probation and pretrial services officers, professors, and various subject matter experts.

The Education Division's Administrative Team manages recordkeeping, financial processes and reporting, program coordinator support, hotel and audio-visual support procurement, internal professional development, and much more.

The current division director is an experienced educator who served as the deputy director from 2015-2023 and has been the director for about one year.

Who You Are

We need someone who is committed to the Center's mission, is a thought leader and detail-oriented manager, and who appreciates the challenge of being "second in command." We expect that you'll be:
  1. A reliable and trusted partner to the director. You'll pay close attention to day-to-day management and keep the director informed and aware. You'll err on the side of overcommunicating. You'll be adept at translating goals into reality through thoughtful planning, budgeting, and management and by keeping the director informed of timelines, progress, and challenges.
  2. A consistent and effective administrator. You'll be attentive to details, procedures, and policies whether they're related to the division's budget, travel, program planning, or managing staff. You'll be fiscally prudent, apply rules and regulations to budget and financial management, and bring common sense to management decisions.
  3. A compassionate and engaged supervisor. You'll foster collegiality, cooperation, and collaboration across groups. You'll demonstrate empathy and strong listening skills. You'll be adept at working with smart, talented, independent thinkers who have served the organization for many years as well as with mentoring a cadre of new members of the division.
  4. An ethical leader with a service mindset. Your decision-making will be driven by a strong sense of ethics and integrity. You'll uphold high standards and lead in alignment with the Center's mission.
  5. An experienced educator. You'll be familiar with competency-based curricula and remote teaching, and you'll use your knowledge to work with ADDs and other ED staff to ensure we're delivering the best education possible with the resources available.
  6. A change agent. You'll advocate for quality, growth, and improvement across individuals, teams, systems, processes, and policies. You'll assess challenges and consider a variety of potential solutions. You'll listen to staff, faculty, and participants, staying updated on trends in education and management, and recommending improvements where needed, and you'll drive positive change.
  7. An inclusive leader. You'll demonstrate a commitment to strengthening a culture that supports individual and organizational wellness, resilience, and inclusivity of different perspectives and values.
If this describes who you would be in the role and if you want to serve in an organization where your work contributes to a powerful mission and the betterment of society, consider applying to become the Center's Education Division deputy director.

Education

Advanced degree in education, a social science, business administration, or law.
