Summary The Department of the Interior is devoted to protecting and preserving the natural resources of this great nation, including National Parks, Landmarks, and the well-being of communities, including those of Native American, Alaska Natives and affiliated Islanders. Qualifications Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for the GS-13, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as experience: Developing technical communications to produce mishap reports; Applying safety management system principles, and Participating in aviation investigations. MUST MEET ALL Your resume must include a clear and detailed narrative description, in your own words, of how you meet the required specialized experience. Conditions of Employment: Obtain UAS pilot qualification as defined by DOI Operational Procedures Manual (OPM) 09-11 on selected Department-operated UAS within the first year upon entrance on duty. Requirements: Driver's License Requirement: A valid state driver's license is required to drive to various field locations as required. Therefore, you must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Drug Test Requirement: This position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received. Physical Demands: The incumbent is involved in some physical exertion and hardships when conducting on-site investigations. The incumbent is also required to lift and transport personal equipment and tools to conduct on-site investigations. Extensive hiking may be required, and long periods of standing and sitting in confined cockpits are required as a routine part of the work. Work Environment: The work is mostly accomplished in an office environment; however, some of the work is performed outdoors, in isolated field locations. During on-site investigations, the work may be conducted in all possible weather conditions such as heavy rains, sub-zero, severe arctic conditions for several hours, hot, and arid climate. Terrain may include high, rugged mountains, dense forests, swamps and grasslands, desert areas, in open-seas, rivers and lakes, and in the Alaska tundra. In certain aviation operations, it is necessary to wear protective clothing such as protective helmet, gloves, boots, and fire-retardant clothing. Travel to remote locations on short notice (i.e., less than 24 hours) may be required. Extensive travel may be required and can occur at different times throughout the year. The incumbent is required to travel in light aircraft, automobiles, or on commercial airlines to perform work in the field. The preliminary background check consists of a search of Office of Personnel Management and Department of Defense background investigation files and an FBI National Criminal History Fingerprint Check; it may take up to 3 weeks to complete. If selected for this position, you will be extended a tentative offer of employment pending a satisfactory background check. Current Federal employees or individuals with an existing completed background investigation may not be required to undergo another background check; these will be handled on a case-by-case basis in coordination with the Bureau security office.
