Summary
There will be two positions as a Maintenance Mechanic, WG-4749-9 working in one of two locations listed below:
1 position - Agassiz NWR in Middle River, MN
1 position - Big Stone NWR in Odessa, MN
This position is also open to status candidates under announcement R3-25-12590189-SD-MP.

- Suitability for employment, as determined by background investigation.
- Drug Testing Position: Selectees tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- Medical Requirements: Selectees must pass a pre-employment medical examination and may be subject to post-employment medical examinations to determine if they are maintaining the fitness standards for this position.
- Driver’s License: Selectees will be required to possess and maintain a valid State driver's license at all times during their tenure.
- Must have the ability to obtain a valid commercial drivers license (CDL) within one year of employment and maintain it for the duration of employment.
- Uniform: Official U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service uniform is required.
- Probationary Period: Selectees may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Individuals assigned male at birth after 12-31-59 must be registered for the Selective Service. To verify registration visit SSS.gov.
- You will be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must maintain certification on all equipment he/she operates.

Although no specific amount of experience, education or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position and the Assessment Questionnaire in order to be rated qualified for consideration. To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level, and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements.
The screen out element for this position is:
Ability to do the work of Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision (SCREEN-OUT).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
Technical Practices (Operation of Motor Vehicles).
Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

PCS INFORMATION:
Yes, entitlements for payment of basic moving expenses, as required and to the extent allowed by the Federal Travel Regulation (FTR) 302-3.101, are authorized for eligible applicants changing duty station when the change meets the distance tests as provided in FTR 302-1.1 and 302-2.6.
All moving expenses are taxable.
-In addition, relocation discretionary entitlements may be authorized for this position excluding contractor-provided home sale.

Telework:
This position is suitable for telework only in an emergency or natural disaster.
