Duties Provides customer support for retail sales of U.S. Postal Service (USPS) stamps, envelopes, and postal cards using an accountable drawer containing postal products and cash. Maintains a supply of stamps and other items for retail sales. Issues and cashes domestic USPS money orders, following USPS and Senate guidelines. Ensures stamp and retail inventories are adequately stocked. Provides information to patrons concerning USPS regulations, mailing restrictions, rates, and other matters involving postal transactions. Performs as a notary public. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Other Duties/ Responsibilities Serves as a Notary Public. Required Work Experience At least 2 years of relevant customer service/ cashier experience. Required Special Skills/ Knowledge As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role.  Customer service and active listening skills. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to understand basic accounting practices. Knowledge in Microsoft products. Ability to speak to Senate staff, and the public, when answering questions or fulfilling service requests. Desired Qualifications  Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage courteously and professionally with a diverse customer base. Experience handling cash and maintaining an accountable drawer with accuracy and integrity. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in recordkeeping and transaction processing. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment while managing multiple tasks. Familiarity with retail systems software, or the ability to learn office-specific systems such as Retail Systems Software (RSS). Working Conditions Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. Work requires extended periods of being sedentary, bending, and safely lifting objects up to 100 pounds of shared weight. Exposes employees to dust. Employees are required to wear a uniform. Education High School/GED.
