Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a shift supervisor for the Ambulance Section at Fort Stewart and works under the direction of the Chief of the Ambulance Section. Duties Respond to all types of emergencies involving injury and illnesses, and sometimes encounter situations which are life threatening. Independently determines the shortest and safest route to the incident location while gathering pertinent data prior to arrival. Conducts both a complete site survey for hazardous conditions and a physical examination of the patient in order to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of the patient’s condition. Provides emergency medical care in the field environment based on field diagnosis ether by direction from advanced life support medical control, and/or in accordance with standing orders (protocols). Assists with maintenance of emergency vehicles and performs daily equipment inventories. Ensures that all applicable patient care reports and related forms are completed in accordance with established protocols and standards. Establishes performance standards; prepare and issue performance ratings; explains work requirements, methods, and procedures as needed. Counsels employees on work performance and initiates minor disciplinary actions. Requirements Conditions of employment You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis. This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion. A pre-placement medical examination is required. This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident. Incumbent must obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Incumbent works a 24-hour shift on-duty with 4 or 5 work shifts existing in a 2-week pay period and subject to mandatory overtime and recall to maintain adequate staffing. Incumbent must obtain and maintain a state driving license and must be able to acquire and maintain a military driving license. This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed. Incumbent is required to have a licensure from the state of Georgia as a Paramedic at time of hire. (Applicants must upload a copy of certification to application) Incumbents must obtain and maintain a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic certification within 1 year of employment. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses; (2) conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs, AND (3) operating a patient transport vehicle. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
