Job Description
Summary
This position is part of the Office of the Inspector General, Department of Energy in the Office of Cyber Assessments and Data Analytics. As a Data Scientist (Visualization), you will provide technical expertise for the organization by leading efforts to make data available and usable by developing data visulatizations or supporting innovative research and analysis on Department of Energy operations, investigations, inspections, and audits.

Qualifications
You must have a degree inMathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
- Creating and implementing data collection and analysis tools while utilizing computer programming language.
- Utilizing software applications and software languages such as (PowerBI, DAX, and other data analytics tool) s to generate reports or data visualizations that convey data to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborating with internal or external stakeholders to review specialized data and recommend solutions.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time-in-Grade: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
