A description of the business units can be found at: https://www.jobs.irs.gov/about/who/business-divisions Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas: Taxpayer Services Customer Account Services Electronic Products and Services Support (EPSS), Technical Services Operation (TSO), Customer Service Sections (CSS) The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. Provides telephone support to a wide range of customers with varying degrees of understanding, or who possess a professional understanding of tax law regulations relative to information returns. Provides full explanations to information reporting, information return preparation and filing inquiries initiated by customers, and through generated notices, or internally generated assignments. Provides technical information to taxpayers on a wide range of information returns, and limited assistance in other tax areas (e.g., filing, underreporting, password reset, and/or other requirements). Provides assistance and guidance to customers on a wide range of information returns and forms including, but not limited to, Forms 1096, 1097, 1098, 1099, 3921, 3922, 5498, 8935,W-2G, W-2 and W-3, either electronically or on paper forms. This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-05, but if the position has career progression to GS-07, then you may move from a GS-05 to a GS-07 in as little as two years. Requirements Conditions of employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. (Birth certificate showing birth in the U.S; Unexpired U.S. Passport; Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization; or Report of Birth Abroad of a U.S. Citizen (Form FS-240)) Undergo a review of conduct and an income tax verification. If you are not in compliance, you will be determined unsuitable for employment with IRS. This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Specialized Experience/ Education GS-05: To be eligible for this position, you must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is in or related to this position and provided you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include: Experience researching and reviewing records, documents or financial accounts for resolution Experience resolving technical system and application problems/errors Experience communicating with customers orally or in writing Experience following organizational procedures using established guidelines Experience with computer systems and software applications OR EDUCATION: Completed four (4) years above high school in any field, in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of experience or a combination of experience as described above. Education For positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying for this position by substituting education or training for experience, submit a copy of your transcripts or equivalent. An official transcript will be required if you are selected. A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. Additional information This is a term appointment, made for an initial period of 13 months and may be extended in increments of 1 year (or less), up to the 4-year limit. There may be a potential for conversion under the Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998 to a permanent appointment in the competitive service through internal merit promotion procedures. Conversion to a permanent appointment is not automatic or guaranteed. To be eligible for conversion, you must apply and compete for an internal vacancy announcement that is the same line of work and open to term employees. In addition, you must have completed 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment (or any combination of term appointments under competitive procedures) and received at least a fully successful performance rating. All newly appointed employees to the federal service are subject to a probationary period if hired under a competitive service appointment, or a trial period if hired under an excepted service appointment. These periods are designed to evaluate an employee's performance, conduct, and alignment with agency mission and values. These periods are no longer passive transitions to permanent status but serve as formal extensions of the hiring process, requiring affirmative Supervisory certification action. The salary range indicated in this announcement reflects the minimum locality pay up to maximum locality pay for all duty locations listed. The range will be adjusted for selected duty location. Tour of Duty: Day Shift - Start and stop times between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and Mid Shift - Start and stop times between 10:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.. Alternative work schedule, staggered work hours or telework may be available. In the event that a building is closed due to rent management, new hires may be placed in a local commuting location. Season is from six (6) to eight (8) months. Employees who work a seasonal work schedule are placed in non-pay status or recalled to duty as workload or budget dictates and in accordance with their seasonal employment agreement.
