Summary About the Position: Serves as a Medical Supply Technician for the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) in a Military Treatment Facility within the Defense Health Agency (DHA). Responsible for the decontamination, assembly, inspection, sterilization, issue and storage of all medical and dental instrumentation and equipment; tracking instrument and equipment usage; and facilitating rental (loaner, consignment) equipment acquisition This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Duties Provide operating rooms, wards, clinics and other users throughout the command with sterile supplies and items of special technical equipment. Maintain established supply levels and rotation of supplies. Perform testing on equipment for the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments. Utilize the appropriate sterilization method based upon manufacture requirements and recommendations. Assemble and package surgical instruments based on standard operating procedures. Coordinate issuance of equipment to appropriate departments within the medical center. Requirements Conditions of employment Basic Life Support certification is required. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required. This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire). This position is subject to hepatitis vaccination unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire). This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. This position is requires the incumbent to work uncommon tour of duties such as on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements. This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. This position requires incumbent to be fit tested for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Incumbent must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance and weights over 45 pounds with assistance. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assembling medical instrument trays for medical procedures; wrapping and labeling instrument sets for the sterilization process; checking supplies for compliance with regulations and policies; and decontaminating a full range of reusable medical supplies and/or equipment used in surgeries or other medical procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of post-secondary level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as sterile processing, supply chain management, surgery, or logistics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed post-secondary level semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
