Job Description

Summary This position is located in the Law Enforcement Directorate, Pentagon Operations Center (POC). The POC serves as the Pentagon and Mark Center's Public Safety Answering Point. The POC mission is to observe, receive, validate and react to information regarding indications of potential threats to public safety, physical security breaches, or compromises of infrastructure integrity at all Leased Facilities within the NCR and provide a safe work environment for the DoW community and its visitors. Duties Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Provides high-level operational and programmatic support to shift operations and assists in ensuring continuous 24/7 mission coverage. Assists in reviewing the performance of operations center functions, identifying areas for improvement, and recommending adjustments to optimize situational awareness, incident tracking, and coordination workflows. Acts as a senior liaison during routine and emergency operations with PFPA directorates, dispatch and response units, and external agencies to ensure seamless coordination of actions and resource deployment during high-visibility events, exercises, or planned operational activities. Leads efforts to support strategic coordination with external entities, including federal, state, and local stakeholders such as the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, Arlington County, and other mission partners. This position is subject to recall 24/7 and the employee is required to work shifts; days off vary. Qualifications In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below. You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the positions being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience in 1) knowledge of operations center functions, organizational planning, or mission support coordination; 2) ability to research procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise in the work of the unit; 3) strong ability to communicate both orally and written to effectively communicate recommendations for actions. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related OR You have a combination of specialized experience and education. You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the positions being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience in 1) skill in program and policy analysis, including the ability to develop recommendations based on operational data and interagency requirements; 2) knowledge of DoD policies, regulations, and precedents related to facility operations; 3) ability to communicate effectively with high-level officials and represent the organization in collaborative planning environments. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
