Summary The Supervisory Medical Care Transportation Technician is assigned to the Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Emergency Department Ambulance Service, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN), in various VA Medical Center (VAMC) locations, with an emergency room, acute care or urgent care clinic, or other similar departments performing basic and advanced life support procedures. Qualifications There are Four (4) Selective Placement Factors (SPF) have been identified for this position. Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration. Selective Placement Factor (SPF) - Screen-out: Supervisory Medical Care Transportation Technician (BLS) - You must have and maintain current/valid Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) Certification. (CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED to receive credit for further consideration). (Validated during interview process) AND Selective Placement Factor (SPF) - Screen-out: Supervisory Medical Care Transportation Technician (NREMT) - You must have a valid/current National Registered Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic) certification. (CERTIFICATION REQUIRED to receive credit for further consideration). (Validated during interview process) AND Selective Placement Factor (SPF) - Screen-out: Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) - You must have a current and valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification. (CERTIFICATION REQUIRED to receive credit for further consideration). (Validated during interview process) AND Selective Placement Factor (SPF) - Screen-out: VALID and UNRESTRICTED DRIVER"S LICENSE (DL) -You must have a valid and unrestricted state driver's license. (DO NOT provide driver's license. We may not accept pictures. This requirement will be verified during interview). AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. AND NOTE - Minimum Qualification Requirements: In addition to the Selective Placement Factors above and English Language Proficiency; you must also meet to qualify one of the following qualification requirements for this position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-11: I have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the Federal Service that has given me the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Supervisory Medical Care Transportation Technician. Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is serving as a lead/supervisor and technical advisor pertaining to emergency medical services and overall management and supervision of the emergency patient transportation and Ambulance Service Program (ASP); manages oversite and/or coordination with tenant activities, private medical organizations and smaller installations under their jurisdiction; develops, coordinates, and implements programs, budgets, policies, regulations, and emergency response procedures; serves as technical advisors to management on all matters pertaining to emergency medical services and ambulance transportation matters; makes an independent preliminary assessment of the patient's condition and selects from a variety of prescribed protocols the one that is considered appropriate under the given circumstances; retains broad knowledge and skills sufficient to provide and gather information on the human body structure, function, illnesses and diseases, and the treatment procedure supporting patient charting and goals for the assigned patient for the purpose of communicating with the patients and nursing/medical staff members; and performs thorough safety and operator maintenance inspections and makes minor repairs on a variety of emergency ambulances, patient transport vehicles, and medical equipment. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): I have successfully completed three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or LL.M, if related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Clinical Data Collection/Documentation Emergency Care First Response Patient Care Transportation IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The Supervisory Medical Care Transportation Technician work involves extended periods of heavy moving and lifting of patients in a variety of situations. Generally, the work requires recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, and positioning of patients, frequently under adverse conditions or in confined areas. The Supervisory Medical Care Transportation Technician may be required to spend prolonged periods in protective breathing apparatus and protective clothing during chemical, nuclear, biological, or hazardous materials incidents/exercises.
