Duties The United States Space Force (USSF) at Joint Base Andrews, MD is searching for a Chief of Protocol for Delta 13 (NH-0301-03, GS-12/13 Equivalent). Description: Serve as the Delta's authoritative expert and advisor on all matters of protocol and event resource management to meet Delta, USSF, AF, and DOD mission objectives. Ensures all areas of protocol operations complies with legal and regulatory requirements. Develops goals, and objectives that will integrate protocol with the USSF mission. Interfaces with HQSF, HAF, FIELDCOM and other governmental inter-agency staffs to accomplish USSF Protocol objectives. Establishes and maintains relationships with governmental officials, public officials and various community groups to communicate and disseminate program information which results in an understanding of the Command's mission and activities. Ideal Candidate: Background in hospitality or event management with extensive experience managing distinguished visitor itineraries, delegations, and high-visibility events. They are skilled in planning and executing ceremonies, conferences, tours, memorials, and official functions while advising senior leaders on protocol standards, customs, courtesies, and precedence. Their work often involves direct coordination with commanders, senior military officials, and government leaders, as well as collaboration across joint, interagency, and international partners. They excel at organizing complex, multi-day events and handling all logistical details, including transportation, lodging, security, and seating arrangements. The ideal candidate is familiar with Air Force and Space Force protocol regulations such as AFI 34-1201 and the DoD Order of Precedence, and brings training in project management, executive communication, cross-cultural etiquette, crisis planning, and strong writing and briefing skills. Key Responsibilities: 1. A deep understanding and knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of protocol, precedence, funding, military ceremonies, and traditions, both national and international 2. Proficient knowledge of the protocol and military operational planning process and ability to apply that knowledge in routine exercise, contingency, and real world operations 3. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively in responding and resolving work related inquiries and problems 4. Knowledge of standard organizational budget procedures 5. Skilled in working with high-level military and civilian officials, possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships, mediate, and handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy 6. Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to handle multiple tasks, plan, organize, and direct functions and staff of military and civilian personnel to meet deadlines and manage complex events Requirements Conditions of employment Must be a U.S Citizen. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret/ SCI security clearance. May be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise. Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework". May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis. May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments. This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first. PCS /relocation funding is authorized. Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
