Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TITLE 5 FIREFIGHTER (HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECH/BASIC LIFE SUPPORT) (MI 127 CES), Position Description Number NGT6311000 and is part of the MI 127 Wing, National Guard. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. U.S. Citizenship is required. Irregular and overtime hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies. The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft/vehicle to perform temporary duty assignments. Must have a valid civilian driver’s license. Employee must participate in a mandatory physical fitness testing program. Employee must meet medical standards IAW OPM GS-0081 Series and DoD Manual 6055.5. Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management. The employee is required to work a 72-hour week on a 24 hour on/24 hour off basis which includes weekends and holidays. May be subject to recall. This is a Testing Designated Position. The employee is subject to random drug testing (IAW HQ-USAF letter dated 29 Jan 90). This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program. May be required to work the Fire Alarm and Communications Center (FACC) May be required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams (HAZMAT) May be required to perform duties associated with the operation of aircraft arresting barrier equipment. The work may require the incumbent to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance. The maximum entry age for this position is 37 years old. Qualifications In your resume you will need to address the general and specialized experience listed below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Months Required: 12 Months --Knowledge to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity, and the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to waterflow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses, etc. .--Knowledge of basic and specialized airfield and structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques, and procedures; and of basic and specialized building design, construction, and occupancy. --Knowledge of HAZMAT emergency response procedures, equipment, identification, and mitigation actions. --Knowledge of basic life support techniques and protocols; and of safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders .--Skill in operating communications equipment. --Ability to apply basic life support techniques and protocols; conduct complete HAZMAT incident analysis; maintain good working relations; communicate orally and in writing; and lift and carry heavy loads. Maximum Entry Age The maximum entry age for DoD firefighters is 37. An individual not appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual becomes age 37 will not be originally appointed or assigned to these positions. Education You must meet the following Education requirement to qualify for this position: Employee is required to be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification System as Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I, II), Hazmat Operations (includes Hazmat Awareness), Apparatus Driver Operator- Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, Apparatus Driver Operator- Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator- Mobile Water Supply (MWS) Must be a certified National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Michigan EMT certified. You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.
