Summary
The purpose of this position is to serve as an advanced Pharmacy Resident in a Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) training position. The incumbent shall train in advanced areas of pharmacy practice, as well as perform assignments intended to improve knowledge, skills, and abilities in clinical and administrative fields. Incumbent must have successfully completed a postgraduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency.

Duties
The pharmacy residency is an organized, directed, postgraduate training in a defined area of pharmacy practice. The graduate will have refined skills in drug therapy management, disease state management, patient consultation, interviewing techniques, laboratory test interpretation and physical assessment. The graduate will be able to communicate and function effectively with other health care professionals in the IHS and understand their roles and those of the organization.
Duties:
Performs clinical assignments of advanced scope and complexity under general supervision.
Applies a number of standard principles, methods, and practices as necessary in order to adapt practices and techniques to specific situations.
Provides information and consultative advice to patients and providers on drug contraindications, adverse effects of drugs, and therapeutic drug selection options.
Participates in inter- and intra-departmental hospital training programs for such groups as physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, pharmacists, and community health representatives.
Performs physical assessment of patients, and with medical staff approval and local privileging, may assess patients and select, initiate, adjust, and monitor medication regimens, which may include assessing current disease status or diagnosis of new medical conditions.

IHS Selectees that will work in an IHS health care facility may be subject to Employee Health Policies related to Measles and Rubella, and seasonal influenza immunizations. Vaccine exemption requests may be available according to the National and/or Service Unit guidance.
The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. After you begin your employment, your continued employment is contingent upon the outcome of a complete background investigation as determined by the sensitivity level of your position. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
The Hiring Manager/Selecting Official may elect to utilize an available flexibility wherein applicants who are actively completing a required professional training program and are expected to complete such program within 9 month(s) of applying, may be deemed tentatively qualified.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: All applicants must have passed the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE). Applicants also must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Those who will be meeting the Education and Licensure requirement within the 9-month period will be tentatively qualified and referred. If selected, you will be required to provide Official Transcript and Valid Pharmacy License before appointment.
Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors.
Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level: 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D., Pharm.D., or equivalent doctoral degree.
Selective Factor:
In addition to the minimum qualification requirements, completion of PGY1 program is required to qualify for the PGY2 program. You must provide your PGY1 certificate or provide a letter from your current PGY1 program documenting your anticipated completion date. (Attach all applicable documentation to your application, failure to provide may result in not meeting the Selective Factor.)

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
This position is at the full performance level.
