As a psychiatrist and officer on the U.S. Army Reserve health care team, you’ll have the opportunity to practice in your community and serve when needed. Focused on providing the best care, you’ll become an important part of our collaborative health care team. You can enhance your skills while helping our Soldiers when they need it most.
As an occupational therapist and officer on the U.S. Army Reserve health care team, you will diagnose, treat, and prevent mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders for Soldiers and their families. You will have the opportunity to develop skills that will enhance your career while you continue to practice in your community and serve when needed.
Benefits include:
- Health Professional Special Pay of $75,000 for eligible specialties, paid in three yearly increments of $25,000
- Health Professionals Loan Repayment of up to $250,000 (maximum of $40,000 per year) may be applied toward qualified school loans

Requirements include:
- Doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy degree from an accredited U.S. school of medicine or osteopathy; foreign graduates may apply if they have a permanent certificate from the Educational Council of Foreign Medical Graduates
- Current license to practice medicine in the United States, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico
- Eligibility for board certification
- Completion of at least one year of an approved Graduate Medical Education (GME) internship
- Completion of a training program in psychiatry
- Between 21 and 42 years of age
- Permanent U.S. residency
