The primary purpose of this position is to install, modify, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electric power controlling equipment and/or distribution lines. The position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program. This position may require drug testing and the candidate may be subject to passing a drug test upon selection. Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Shift work and emergency overtime may be required. Selectee may be required to serve a probationary or trial period. Disclosure of Political Appointments. Direct Deposit: All federal employees are required to have direct deposit. Emergency overtime may be required. Position requires the ability to discern colors and contrast. May be required to possess a valid operator’s license in order to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites. AND/OR, may be required to procure a government operator’s permit or obtain a commercial driver’s license. Visually checks the work of contractors for compliance with contract specifications on new construction. This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. An electrician’s license is desired but not required for exterior high voltage work. Must possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and be proficient in operating bucket trucks. (If you don’t possess there will be a one-year grace period to obtain this license through Hanscom Air Force Base.) Qualifications Conditions of Employment Continued: The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: The employee frequently performs moderately heavy lifting, pulling, and carrying of equipment and material weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) and occasionally, lifts or pulls heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work aloft on poles, at ground level, and in ground trenches or manholes. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods. Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors. At times, works in awkward positions and restricted spaces where coordination of hands, legs, and body are needed to perform tasks. In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 Electrical Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ???????Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability To Use Electrical Drawings Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Trouble shooting (electrical) PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
