Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position is with the 79th Sustainment Support Command, 652nd Regional Support Group, 364th Expeditionary Sustainment Command located in Helena, Montana.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is an Emergency Essential (E-E) position subject to deployment.
  • Incumbent must pass a medical examination and receive required immunizations for the overseas/deployed location.
  • Prior to appointment, this position requires the incumbent to pass a pre-employment deployable medical examination and yearly thereafter and sign a statement agreeing to the E-E conditions of employment.
  • Incumbent is required to sign a mobility agreement.
  • Incumbent is deployable (world-wide) with military units assigned/attached to the Army Reserve in support of tactical, contingency, and field operations for up to 365 days.
  • Incumbent must possess and be able to maintain a valid stateside driver’s license.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Vehicle driver's license within 30 days of employment.
  • Must be physically able to perform job requirements for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have completed Level I Skills related training as outlined in the Army Functional Career Program (FC-12) Master Training Plan or within one year of appointment.
  • The duties of this position may require the incumbent to work evenings, nights, holidays, and/or weekends to include modification in shifts and/or tour of duty.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • This position is subject to Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
  • This position may involve exposure to hazardous materials and/or extreme temperatures.
  • This position requires you to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) Assisting in performing a variety of technical, analytical, advisory, consultative, liaison, and coordinating duties relating to planning and implementing a Safety program; 2.) Assisting with developing and recommending safety and occupational health programs or policies to high level officials; 3.) Interpreting, applying and/or knowledge of the development of safety and occupational health laws, regulations, policies, procedures or standings; 4.) Evaluating existing safety programs or inspecting workplaces to determine possible hazards; 5.) Utilizing safety and occupational health knowledge to reduce or control hazards; 6.) Training individuals on safe practices; and 7.) Investigating workplace accidents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.   • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
  • Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 2 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
