The primary purpose of this position, Firefighting Equipment Dispatcher, GS-2151-04 is to serve as a Firefighting Equipment Dispatcher at
Hanscom Fire Department with delegated responsibility for receiving all types of fire alarm, medical, aircraft, hazardous materials, and mutual
aid emergency calls and dispatching a wide variety of emergency vehicles and personnel to Hanscom AFB, and off base responses.
Duties
-Maintain logs and reports for Operations, Fire Prevention, Administration, and Fire Alarm Communications Work Center recording all vehicle movements and personnel activities throughout the entire Fire Department.
-Answer all incoming telephone calls and obtain or provide information as required.
-Operate the service call function after administrative duty hours, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
-Execute activation of Fire Department and base level recalls for firefighters as requested by senior fire officers, the Director of Civil Engineering, or the Installation Commander.

Required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and or holidays.
Incumbent is required to wear departmental mandatory uniforms.
Recall to duty may be a requirement of this position.
Employee will comply with and implement all cyber-security regulations, requirements, procedures, and policies.
Employee will be required to support Base Readiness and Emergency Operations Exercises and Real-World Threats and Events not necessarily performing in their primary skill code.
Employee will complete and maintain currency of all mandatory ancillary training assigned and required.
The actual work performed in this position has been reviewed and determined that it does not meet any of the exemption criteria defined in 5 CFR 551. This position has been designated as nonexempt.
This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
INCUMBENT MUST BE ABLE TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN AN APPROPRIATE LEVEL SECURITY CLEARANCE AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT.
THIS POSITION HAS BEEN DESIGNATED FOR DRUG TESTING. IF YOU ARE SELECTED FOR THIS POSITION YOU MAY BE SUBJECT TO URINALYSIS TESTING PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT AND YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO RANDOM URINALYSIS TESTING AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT.
Selectee may be required to serve a probationary or trial period.
Qualifications
IMPORTANT NOTE: This developmental position will be filled at the entry level grade (GS-04). It is targeted to the final full-performance level of GS-06. Promotion to the next higher grade is contingent upon the employee being fully qualified at the next lower level.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM)
Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
ONLY EXPERIENCE OBTAINED BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE CONSIDERED.
FOR GS-2151-04 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one year of general experience at a level close to the work of this position. Typically, we would find this experience in work within this field that is closely related. To be creditable, the general experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-03), pay band or equivalent. General experience is described as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills to perform the duties of this position.
OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Applicants must have successfully completed education 2-years above high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education has been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS WITH YOUR APPLICATION IF USING EDUCATION AS A SUBSTITUTION OF EXPERIENCE.
OR COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience to meet total experience requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Skill in communicating factual and procedural information clearly, orally and in writing.
2. Ability to learn basic techniques of the Firefighting Equipment Dispatcher.
3. Ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions.
4. Ability to plan and organize work and consult effectively with co-workers.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
*Incumbent is required to meet all certification levels as outlined in National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 1061, "Standard for Qualifications for Public Safety Tele-Communicator", Public Safety Tele-Communicator I, Public Safety Tele-communicator II (Reference: NFPA 1061 Chapter 5 & 6), within one year of initial employment start date.
*Incumbent is required to meet Hazardous Materials Awareness certification as outlined in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Reference: OSHA 191.120(q)(6)(i)), within one year of initial employment start date.
*Incumbent is required to meet Massachusetts State NG9-1-1 certification as outlined in state requirement guidelines, within one year of initial employment start date.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves long hours of sitting, intense concentration, and working at peak proficiency/intensity levels with irregular breaks and mealtimes. The duties of this position create a highly stressful environment during peak activity, requiring the ability to keep calm in emergency situations. There are no special physical demands.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is typically performed in an office setting except for occasional visits to protected areas on the installation, which involve ordinary risks and discomforts and require normal safety precautions.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
