We are currently
seeking a talented and compassionate BE/BC Cardiac Intensivist/ CV Anesthesiologist to provide
services in CardioVascular ICU (CVICU) and Cardiac Anesthesiology. The prospective candidate will
join a collaborative team of more than 30 specialized intensivists in the Medical Critical Care
Service at Inova Fairfax Medical Center as well as, a nationally recognized group of
anesthesiologists and cardiac anesthesia practice with NorthStar Anesthesia.

Anesthesiology Features
50% of time providing anesthesia
for a variety of surgical procedures depending on training (ie. Cardiac OR vs General OR)

Cases may include major vascular, OB/GYN, healthy peds, neuro, urology, ambulatory, orthopedic, ENT,
as well as ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, and major and large volume cardiac procedures
-
Cardiac surgical cases may include heart and lung transplants, major aortic, minimally invasive
surgery, adult congenital, structural heart, in
addition to CABG and valve surgeries
Participate in
call rotation
Work with a team of 55+ Anesthesiologists (Cardiac, Pediatric, Obstetric, and Pain
trained)
Solo or care team model with CRNAs
Academic appointment opportunities available through the
University of Virginia (for both anesthesiology and critical care). Further, educational
opportunities include ability to work with medical students and residents (UVA and Walter Reed), and
cardiothoracic fellows (Johns Hopkins)
Critical Care Features
50% of time providing critical care
coverage for a high-volume inpatient heart center in the surgical and medical cardiac ICUs

Coverage will include mechanical circulatory support devices, pre and post heart and lung transplant
care, adult congenital physiology,
post percutaneous valve interventions, post surgical cardiac
cases
Multidisciplinary team model with APP supervision
Week on service/week off service
model

Requirements:
Work schedule:Split position with Critical
Care and Anesthesia. .5 FTE in CVICU and .5 FTE with Anesthesia.
MD or DO from an accredited
university medical school, completed ACGME residency training and subsequent fellowship
ABMS board
certification/board eligibility in critical care
ABA certification in Anesthesiology.
Advanced
PTEeXAM required for cardiac anesthesiologists
Cardiac Anesthesia ABA certification preferred but
not required for cardiac anesthesiologists
Experience: Experience in fellowship training or as an
attending with critically ill cardiac and cardiovascular patients is required
Licensure: Current or
eligibility for an unrestricted Virginia state medical license and DEA
