Applicants who live within the local commuting area of the duty locations listed in the Additional Information section (50-miles or less from the worksite) are required to perform work onsite and may be eligible for telework in accordance with agency policy.
Applicants who live outside the local commuting area (51-miles or more from the worksite) may be eligible for a long-distance remote work agreement.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
All applicants must first meet one of the following basic qualifications:
GS-1350 Geology Series
GS-0881 Petroleum Engineering Series
In addition to meeting the basic eligibility requirements, applicants must have one of the following:
All applicants at the GS-09 must meet one of the following qualifications:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes but is not limited to: gathering and evaluating mineral resource data, synthesizing mineral commodity information, assisting with mineral evaluation analysis and drafting reports; OR
B. Two years of progressively higher level graduate level education leading to a Master's degree or Master's or equivalent graduate degree in Geology, Physical Science and/or related Engineering Science, or Professional Engineering; OR
C. Combination of education and experience as listed above.
D. FOR APPLICANTS TO THE ENGINEERING, GS-0881 SERIES ONLY: Successful completion of a 5-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering and 1 year of appropriate professional experience.
E. FOR APPLICANTS TO THE ENGINEERING, GS-0881 SERIES ONLY: A combination of superior academic achievement AND 1 year of appropriate professional experience.

Telework Suitability:
The duties of this position are suitable for occasional telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval and if they meet the eligibility criterion in the 2010 Telework Act. OR
Applicants who live outside the local commuting area (51-miles or more from the worksite) may be eligible for a long-distance remote work agreement.
Stipulations of Employment:
This term appointment may be extended up to a maximum total period of 4 years or terminated at any time at management discretion. Selection does not confer eligibility to be promoted or reassigned to other positions or to be non-competitively converted to a career-conditional appointment.
Selection for this term position may require serving a 1-year trial period.
