Summary About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army owned & operated manufacturing center located in NY. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems. The Arsenal is the only location in the DoD that has a weapons research facility (BenΓ©t Labs) collocated with a manufacturing facility. Duties Participates with upper level supervision in the planning and development of both long and short-range technical and business-oriented automation efforts for the strategic business planning endeavors. Provides technical advice and assistance to shop personnel during the manufacturing process. Establishes the process for manufacturing a wide variety of experimental, prototype, pilot model, and production model cannon and a variety of non-mission items Estimates type, size, and quantity of material required from drawings and computes cost. Determines the method of manufacture, tooling and machine tools required, cost to design, manufacture or purchase tools and area in which work will be performed based on sketch information or verbal instructions Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience at GS-12: Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: (1) Participate with upper level supervision in the planning and development of both long and short-range technical and business-oriented automation efforts for the strategic business planning endeavors; (2)Prepare and/or present organizational briefings to high echelons; (3)Establish processes for manufacturing a wide variety of experimental, prototype, pilot model, and production items; (4)Provide technical advice and assistance to shop personnel during the manufacturing process; (5)Prepare detailed estimates of manhours and costs from drawings and specifications for proposed manufacturing projects. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
