Archeological Technician

To qualify at the GS-05 level you must meet the following:
Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level comparable in difficulty and complexity to perform the duties of an Archeological Technician. Qualifying specialized experience includes: assisting in gathering cultural site inventory; preparing reports, maps, and photographs for submission to team members; assembling site data in a logical sequence for review; and assisting in monitoring cultural resources.
OR Education: To qualify based on education you must have completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to archeology.
OR Combination of Education and Experience: Applicants may also use an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above. Transcripts must be provided with your application packet.

To qualify at the GS-06 level you must meet the following:
Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level comparable in difficulty and complexity to perform the duties of an Archeological Technician. Qualifying specialized experience includes: working with a professional archeologist, planning and carrying out field studies to identify cultural, historic and/or paleontological resources and writing reports based on findings; and applying and adapting a wide range of established data analysis methods to fit a variety of circumstances.
OR Education: To qualify based on education you must have completed (1) one full year of graduate study directly related to the work of the position.
OR Combination of Education and Experience: Applicants may also use an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above. Transcripts must be provided with your application packet.

To qualify at the GS-07 level you must meet the following:
Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level comparable in difficulty and complexity to perform the duties of an Archeological Technician. Qualifying specialized experience includes: conducting archaeological field surveys; performing searches for archaeological features and artifacts and recording survey results through field notes, site maps, or photographs; and/or conducting independent excavation and testing of archaeological sites.
OR Education: To qualify based on education you must have completed (1) one full year of graduate education directly related to the work of the position.
OR Combination of Education and Experience: Applicants may also use an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above. Transcripts must be provided with your application packet.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles sometimes in remote locations.

Work Environment: Office work is performed in an adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated area. During fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests and animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
