Position Overview Our team is currently looking for an Accountant for one of our clients in Houston, TX. The Accountant reports to the Manager, Assistant Controller. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing and reviewing journal entries, analyzing large data sets to recommend journal entries and offer operational insight, reviewing accounts payable vouchers, preparing balance sheet account reconciliations, and leading process improvement initiatives. Responsibilities & Essential Duties • Prepare and review journal entries to support the month-end close process, including intercompany transactions and consolidations • Perform complex data analyses using Microsoft Excel to prepare and review journal entries and support monthly variance reporting • Review and approve accounts payable vouchers, ensuring accurate coding under GAAP and the company’s Chart of Accounts structure • Prepare monthly and quarterly reconciliations for GL accounts and subsystems • Dedication to continuously improving accounting, reporting, and SOX processes, with ability to lead process improvement initiatives • Ensure compliance with all internal controls, including those for Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and external regulations • Support Assistant Controller in financial statement audits, incurred cost audits, and internal audits • Act as a subject matter expert and key resource for assigned sections of the company’s ongoing Oracle Cloud ERP implementation project, reporting directly to the Director and Controller for this project • Perform other job-related duties as assigned • Prioritizes and plans work activities, organizes personal and project timelines and deadlines, tracks project timelines and deadlines, and uses time efficiently. • Adheres to safety culture and is expected to model safe behavior and influence peers to meet high standards Qualifications (Education, Experience, & Skills) • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Accounting or related business field is required. An advanced degree, Certified Public Accountant designation or Certified Management Accountant designation is preferred but not required. • Experience:A minimum of five years of full-time accounting experience is required. Must possess advanced Microsoft Excel skills with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organization. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to work successfully on cross-functional teams, as well as independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives. Additional required or preferred skills are as follows: • Significant knowledge of US GAAP and SOX • Demonstrated proficiency of accounting/auditing in a SOX 404(b) environment • Proven ability to analyze operational results • Demonstrated proficiency identifying and driving process improvement initiatives • ERP system experience in a SOX environment; Oracle Cloud experience preferred • Able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and external stakeholders • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
