The Accountant is a member of the Corporate Accounting department who will oversee all areas of financial reporting, general ledger, accounts payable, and cash management for a portfolio of multifamily apartment communities including both owned and 3rd party managed properties. 

How You Will Be Successful:

  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and maintain monthly account analysis
  • Manage property bank accounts by monitoring daily bank balances, recording cash-related transactions and completing monthly bank reconciliations
  • Oversee invoice process by reviewing invoices for accuracy and allocation, auditing vendor invoices for contract compliance, rectifying variances, and approving payments
  • Maintain general ledger by processing journal entries, posting monthly revenue and expense accruals, and reviewing accounts against approved budgets to ensure accuracy correcting errors prior to month end close
  • Assist in monthly forecasting by updating and analyzing reporting
  • Review and process monthly petty cash reconciliations
  • Approve, post and commit payables on a weekly basis
  • Review, create and send monthly and quarterly reporting to lenders per their requirements
  • Prepare and submit annual workpapers and review of completed tax returns including posting adjusting entries and balance sheet tie outs
  • Coordinate periodic organization of processes involving all properties which include but are not limited to personal property tax and real estate tax tracking, annual property insurance invoicing and payment reconciliations
  • Process quarterly distributions for multi property investments
  • Continually review processes for increased efficiencies
  • Perform special projects and run ad hoc reports as needed
  • Abide by Mills policies and procedures and laws pertaining to Fair Housing, ADA, etc.

What You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or minimum 3 years full cycle accounting experience
  • Strong financial acumen and thorough understanding of GAAP
  • Analytical thinker with ability to anticipate and solve problems with sound judgment
  • Intermediate level Excel knowledge
  • Yardi/Voyager software a plus
  • Proven ability to maintain composure against obstacles; solving problems with keen insight
  • Strong project management and organizational skills to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Compelling communicator at all levels (including C-level) with the ability to convey ideas and concepts concisely through interpersonal, written and verbal communication
  • Adept at building relationships and working in a team environment with track record of sharing ideas, providing encouragement, building on other’s ideas, giving recognition and bringing out the best in others
