Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and experiencedFull Charge Accountantto join our fast-growing mechanical construction company. As a union-affiliated, commercial mechanical contractor, we are in a dynamic growth phase and require a proactive accounting professional to take full ownership of the company’s day-to-day accounting functions. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of construction accounting, payroll processing, and financial compliance, along with strategic insights to support decision-making and financial planning.
Key Responsibilities: Full-Cycle Accounting:
• Handle daily, weekly, monthly, and annual accounting functions including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, check runs, and journal entries.
• Ensure month-end and year-end close processes are completed accurately and on time.
• Maintain compliance with relevant legislation, union contract terms, and internal policies.
Payroll Management:
• Manage multi-state, union-based payroll processing including certified payroll reporting.
• Ensure compliance with prevailing wage requirements, garnishments, taxes, and benefits administration.
Cash Flow & Financial Management:
• Prepare detailed cash flow forecasts.
• Monitor AR and AP to ensure adequate liquidity for operational needs.
• Identify and manage financial risks and opportunities.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and operating reports in accordance with GAAP.
• Provide financial insights and analysis to assist project managers and leadership in strategic decision-making.
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes; lead quarterly and annual planning reviews.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
• Implement and monitor internal controls to protect company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
• Oversee documentation compliance, including insurance certificates, bonding, SDI, workers compensation, statutory declarations, and lien waivers.
• Act as the primary contact for internal and external audits, ensuring accurate and timely audit completion.
• Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local tax laws and filings.
System & Process Improvements:
• Lead ongoing improvement initiatives to streamline accounting systems and workflows.
• Evaluate and implement new accounting technologies to improve accuracy, reporting, and efficiency.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP, job cost accounting, and union-related payroll requirements.
• Demonstrated experience with financial planning, cash flow forecasting, and reporting.
• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Enterprise and other financial tools.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data for non-financial stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Attributes:
• Familiarity with construction accounting software or ERP systems (e.g., Procore, Sage 300, Viewpoint).
• Experience working in a unionized labor environment.
• Knowledge of lien laws and construction billing processes including AIA forms and progress billing.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $76,000.00 per year
