Opportunity Description Seattle District is looking to hire an Accountant-Federal & State Funds Reconciliation in District Finance Department. Salary Range for this position is $70,488 to $97,339 annually(depending on experience). Opportunity is open until filled, first review of materials will beginSeptember 15th, 2025. Position Summary Under the supervision of the Director of Accounting, the Accountant will be responsible for drawing and reconciling federal and state funds including financial aid and federal grants. This position independently reconciles and troubleshoots financial aid transactions as they move from the student financials module into the general ledger finance pillar. In partnership with college financial aid offices, produce reports on federal financial aid and monitor federal fund award balances. This position performs complex financial reconciliations and analysis related to the trial balance to determine accurate account balances when needed to support college business offices, grants and contracts accounting staff, and other federal funds related account reconciliations. Assist the Director in year-end close activities and to complete numerous sections of the annual federal and state disclosure reports. Assist with item types troubleshooting as needed. The Accountant will also assist in performing internal control risk assessments and monitoring activities and in preparing an internal control report for management annually. This position is full-time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily from 8am to 5pm. This position works 100% remote within the State of Washington. This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-SPS. What you will be working on: • Perform accounting activities for the college consistent with the requirements of the Washington State Office of Financial Management, the federal government and the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. • Establish and monitor fiscal data systems, databases and spreadsheets. Review fiscal records and formulate corrective action. • Investigate discrepancies and resolve differences in accounting entries in general ledger (G/L). • Review, analyze, and reconcile drawdowns from the Department of Education for financial aid and other federal grants monthly. • Review, analyze, and reconcile drawdowns from the Washington Student Achievement Council monthly. • Provide management with reports and analysis of drawdowns, receipts and expenditures related to financial aid and related grants. • Research accounting transactions and prepare corrections and adjustments as appropriate. • Assist with student financials general ledger entries and financial aid item types troubleshooting and creation. • Utilize sound financial principles to perform functions such as: record keeping, reconciliation, auditing and analysis. • Assist the Executive Director in coordinating year-end closing activities and checklists, including completion of delegated sections of the annual federal and state disclosure reports. • Interpret fiscal policies and procedures; assist in the monitoring and review of computer input/output; recommend improvements for development and maintenance of computerized financial management systems and processes. • Assist with audits as needed. Assist in preparation of responses to audit inquiries. • Assist in performing risk assessments and monitoring of internal controls to prepare an annual report of internal control activities for management. • Provide staff with training for financial and internal control processes. • Perform tasks related to monthly and year-end accounting closing processes. • Serve as backup for 1098-T student tax form processing and troubleshooting. • Maintain financial information in the ctcLink finance pillar and student financials module. • Perform complex accounting tasks as assigned. • Responds to HelpDesk tickets as assigned. What you bring as a candidate:(Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience) • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance including at least 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing, or budgeting. • Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in general accounting to include recording, reconciling, analyzing, and reporting relevant information. • Demonstrated strong general accounting skills with a thorough understanding of applicable accounting standards, internal controls and with excellent attention to detail. • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive relationships with, and consistently support, clients and colleagues with limited subject matter expertise in working with federal funds and complex trial balance reconciliations. • Demonstrated work experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) integrated software. • Demonstrated knowledge showing the ability to understand, interpret, and apply accounting principles as well as rules and regulations governing the use of federal funds and independently solving complex accounting discrepancies. • Demonstrated work experience with Office 365 including expert level spreadsheeting skills. • Demonstrated ability to recognize and solve accounting and business problems. • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills with individuals and groups. • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district and campus administrators and staff. • Demonstrated experience working in a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment, and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
