POSITION OVERVIEW
The Accounting Manager oversees the financial operations of Casa Familiar and its affiliated entities. This role manages general ledger functions, supervises accounting staff, ensures regulatory and grant compliance, and supports internal and external reporting. Key responsibilities include managing multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, and the consolidation of financial statements. The Accounting Manager also supports financial tracking for property management, community development activities, and capital projects. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Key Responsibilities
Core Accounting & Oversight
• Manage the full accounting cycle, including journal entries, reconciliations, monthly close, and internal reporting
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (ASC 958)
• Oversee accounts payable, receivable, payroll allocations, and fixed asset tracking
• Maintain and reconcile the chart of accounts for all programs and departments
Multi-Entity & Intercompany Accounting
• Oversee accounting for multiple legal entities, including Casa Familiar’s nonprofit parent and affiliated entities (e.g., LLCs or SPEs)
• Record and reconcile intercompany transactions, shared expenses, and internal allocations
• Prepare and maintain elimination entries and ensure proper coding for consolidated financial statements
• Support external reporting to stakeholders involved in housing and development partnerships
Financial Statement Consolidation
• Prepare and maintain monthly and year-end consolidated financial statements across all Casa entities
• Ensure timely and accurate consolidation of financial data, including eliminations and reconciliations
• Support CFO with financial analysis and consolidated board reporting packages
• Coordinate with housing and development teams to ensure project-level data is integrated into entity-wide financials
Housing & Property Accounting Support
• Record and reconcile rental income, deposits, tenant payments, and reserve activity
• Collaborate with property management and housing departments to validate data and ensure accurate financial entry
• Track and support reporting of housing-related expenditures, capital maintenance, and restricted accounts
• Assist with compliance reporting for property funders, investors, and partners
Community Development & Capital Projects
• Track expenses and funding for community development initiatives and capital projects
• Maintain backup documentation and prepare transaction summaries for reimbursement requests
• Assist with categorization and tracking of predevelopment, construction, and project-related costs
• Collaborate with development staff to ensure proper coding and integration of information into financial records
Grant & Contract Compliance
• Track restricted and unrestricted grant funds, ensuring proper allocation of expenses
• Prepare reports and supporting documentation for federal, state, and private funders
• Ensure alignment with 2 CFR Part 200 (Uniform Guidance) and other applicable compliance requirements
• Monitor budget-to-actual activity and assist program managers with financial reviews
Team Leadership & Audit Readiness
• Supervise and support accounting staff in day-to-day functions and professional development
• Ensure documentation and audit trails for all financial transactions
• Prepare audit schedules and support the annual audit, Single Audit, and IRS Form 990
• Work directly with external auditors, funders, and partners as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
• Minimum 4+ years of nonprofit accounting experience, including multi-entity and grant accounting
• Demonstrated experience with intercompany transactions and financial statement consolidation
• Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel
• Strong knowledge of fund accounting, GAAP, and ASC 958
• Familiarity with housing or real estate financial operations (e.g., rent tracking, reserve funds)
Preferred:
• Experience with federal grants, housing partnerships (e.g., LIHTC, CDBG, HOME), and community development finance
• Familiarity with inter-entity eliminations and nonprofit/real estate consolidations
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
Additionally
This position requires sitting at a desk or workstation, walking, standing, climbing stairs, hearing, speaking, being able to lift up to 25 lb., and being able to drive to do other errands pertaining to organizational operations. A background check is required.
