Opening
Are you a creative thinker with technical knowledge in fabrication, assembly, and architectual design? We have an opportunity for a qualified candidate to join our team as an Architectual Sign Designer. As a team member you would be responsible for creating conceptual designs as well and detailed production drawings for a variety of electrical and non-electrical sign types. You shall have a strong eye for detail and skills related to architecture, mechanical engineering, metal fabrication, and signage is required. Projects you will be involved with include wayfinding systems, environmental graphics, ADA code signs, wall signs, monument signs, artistic displays, and custom fabricated electrical signage. Materials and production methods used in our facility include aluminum, wood, acrylic, vinyl, CNC cutting and routing, engraving, aluminum fabrication, welding, painting, printing, electrical illumination and others.
This is not a graphic design position. The successful candidate must have experience in industrial design, mechanical design, or architecture to be considered for this position.
Responsibilities
• Successfully manage multiple complex projects from submittal to production readiness.
• Create concepts and detailed production drawings which may incorporate low voltage LED lighting, power supplies, fasteners, dimensional or flat-cut aluminum or acrylic lettering, aluminum framing, etc.
• Develop submittal drawing packages which may include final design concepts, production and attachment details, material specifications, message schedules, Pantone and CMYK print formulas, paint, stain, and clear coat information and sign permit information.
• Understand company process related to design, techniques, workflow, fabrication, and installation requirements.
• Work in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment.
• Support and collaborate with the Creative Director, Project Managers, Production Team Members, and other Design Team Members.
• Develop in-depth knowledge of materials and processes.
• Understand, interpret, and ahere to many different code requirements.
• Review and proofread designs, revisions, and other documentation for accuracy.
• Use design and project management software for the execution of daily tasks.
• Attend department and company meetings as needed.
Qualifications
• Must be proficient in CorelDRAW and/or Adobe Creative Suite, and willing to learn new programs as required.
• Must possess strong problem-solving ability, especially while under pressure.
• Must be self-motivated, independent, highly organized, proficient and have a strong eye for detail.
• Understand and interpret scaled architectural drawings, floorplans, and site maps.
• Must have strong communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment.
• Knowledge of commercial painting and large format digital printing.
• Must display a strong understanding of graphic file formats.
• Be willing and capable of accepting input and direction from internal and external clients.
• 3D Rendering and/or knowledge of Sketch-up a plus.
• Understand scaled architectural and industrial design drawings.
• Must have experience with industrial or mechanical design, architecture, metal fabrication and production techniques.
Education/Training
Degree in industrial or mechanical design, architecture, or related field is desired.
Proven experience, work history, and portfolio work may be substituted for education on a case-by-case basis.
Experience
• Assembly and fabrication experience in a shop environment. (Desired)
• CorelDRAW and Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent: 3 years (Required)
• Sign or industrial design (Required)
