Job Description
Job Title: School Safety & Security Officer
Primary Purpose:
Under direct supervision, ensure a high degree of protection, safety and security for students, personnel, visitors, and property by monitoring and patrolling grounds, buildings, and other facilities.
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Texas driver's license
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid and automated external defibrillator (AED) certification
Commissioned Security Officer license (or Above)
Emergency Medical Responder certification (or Above)–Required within 180 days of hire
Experience:
-2 years Security, Law Enforcement/Corrections, Military,
-or other Public Safety required.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Ensure schools are properly and adequately secured by patrolling district/campus property and ETJ, conducting inspections, and monitoring premises for the presence of unauthorized persons.
2. Monitor campuses and deter criminal activity, deviant conduct, property damage, or school rule/policy violations by ensuring a strong visible presence and taking appropriate response actions as required.
3. Report unusual incidents and events to the appropriate school administrator(s).
4. Respond to and manage emergency and crisis situations as they occur.
5. Render First Aid and Basic Life Support during medical emergencies when needed.
6. Maintain and clean issued vehicles, equipment, and security offices daily.
7. Manage and direct the flow of traffic during school hours and during special events as necessary.
8. Establish and maintain a professional rapport with school resource officers, staff, and Administrators. Maintain professional standards of conduct with students, personnel, parents, and visitors.
9. Exhibit behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible, and serve as role model for staff and public.
10. Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by ensuring the observance of safety rules, school/policy, and providing instruction on key safety training principles and skills.
11. Assist Law Enforcement and other government officials by providing support, coordination, and visible presence as they conduct official duties within areas which are part of the school district/campus jurisdiction.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
50 hr work week (includes 10 hours built in overtime)
