The Transactional Design team at DotDash Meredith defines the visual execution of a dynamic experience of our beloved brands showcased within the Apple News+. Our wide range of brands include People, Real Simple, Travel & Leisure, Better Homes and Gardens, Food & Wine, Southern Living and many more. Apple News+ is a place where beautifully designed print articles come to life in a dynamic and engaging experience through custom designed articles, animations, audio stories, and more. 

We are looking for an Art Director to work closely with Associate Creative Director, Designers, and Developers to craft cohesive digital brand design experiences within Apple News+. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders to create strong visual designs that support our Digital content strategy and engage and delight our audiences.

As an Art Director at DotDash Meredith you will be responsible for doing competitive research, designing the look and feel of various brand elements and refining and iterating on those ideas for various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Direct creation of digital article designs for Apple News+

  • Direct and mentor other designers.

  • Oversee the production of animations for articles and Live Covers.

  • Maintain digital brand guides. 

  • Prioritize and delegate project assignments.

  • Manage process completion and status of deliverables.

Essential Job Functions

Weight %: Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

40%: Art Direction

Supply feedback and design direction to designers and animators. Ensure top-notch designs while upholding the integrity of brand guidelines and determine what is best suited for the AN+ application. Delegate design assignments.

30%: Design

Execute high-level design requests from Stakeholders. Research and innovative ideas in order to enhance article designs and increase engagement within the AN+ application.

20%: Process Management

Gather specs, communicate progress, keep files organized, follow slack channels, and meet deadlines. 

10%: Innovation & Documentation

Assist ACD with building engagement within AN+. Brainstorm and help produce proposed project plans. Create and maintain documentation of best practices to share with stakeholders and Brands.

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent education and experience

Experience: 3-5 Years Relevant Experience

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite

  • Strong typography skills

  • Publishing industry experience a plus

  • Knowledge of html and css a plus but not essential

  • Knowledge of motion graphics a plus

  • Self motivated

  • Strong attention to detail and organized

  • A team player to work in a fast paced environment

  • Excellent communication skills
