Job Description

The Assistant Carpenter shall be employed in all shows and events that require additional help above the Stage Carpenter in the Carpentry Department at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle. Events include Broadway shows, corporate events, dance, comedy, and musical acts among others. The responsibilities include working with the Stage Carpenter to ensure safe running and supervising local crews, working with other stage departments to complete the needs of the show. Must be able and willing to work with all departments in the theater for non-departmental shows (ie Non-Yellow Card shows) as directed by the Head Carpenter. This position earns $42.71/hour plus benefits and working conditions according to STG's contract with IATSE local 15. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. (Other duties may be assigned) • Ability to work with a team in all aspects of interaction (house crew, Local IATSE over hire Crew, Road Crew, and Clients) • Ability to work with the Stage Carpenter in duties and priorities work assigned. • Ability to lead a crew of varying sizes. • Ability to adapt to changing priorities of a show and fluctuating schedule in a positive manner. • Ability to lift 50lbs unassisted. • Ability to work a safe and predictable manner under stressful conditions and long hours. • Ability to be proactive in work assignments and work independently. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS • Must have working knowledge of traditional Stage Carpentry and be able to work with and maintain all stage carpentry equipment. (ie soft goods, stage surface, fly system, carpentry pieces, grid work) • Ability to safely use power and hand tools to complete work assignments. • Ability to work from an elevated position. • Demonstrated attention to details. • Knowledge and ability to run a Broadway show and cues. • A good general working knowledge of Lighting, and Sound, Video Equipment • Ability to speak a second language is a plus The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
