General Summary

This position works under limited direction and is primarily responsible for technical planning, troubleshooting, commissioning and design verification of automation and instrumentation scope in CAPEX projects. This position will work within a Global Engineering organization of approximately 80 people locally and in Denmark, United Sates, Brazil, France and Germany, supporting both local and global business initiatives. The primary focus of the role is in the Americas region with emphasis on fermentation plants in Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as electrical and automation resource for CAPEX projects, in areas such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Servo Drives, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Human Machine Interface (HMIs) electrical standards, controls system troubleshooting.
• Technical lead/expert in aligning automation solutions with Chr. Hansen standards.
• Ensure and maintain engineering related documentation in CAPEX project for electrical installations, control panel drawings, wiring diagrams and commissioning protocols.
• Verify as-built conditions in the field and monitor construction progress to proactively ensure quality of wiring and controls installation in CAPEX projects.
• Coordinate with involved suppliers or sub-contractors to ensure interfaces are accurately addressed.
• Contribute to existing plant support at 5-10% of resource load with troubleshooting and technical assistance on an as needed basis.
• Stays current with new industry developments in engineering techniques, machines, equipment, materials, etc. and incorporates the innovations in the engineering function to the best advantage of the Company.
• Collaborates with other Global Engineering colleagues to develop engineering company standards.
• Follows all Company safety and sanitation regulations and provides engineering recommendations to assist area managers in reducing or eliminating employee's exposure to injuries or illnesses.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronics or Computer/Software Engineering or related field and 3+ years of experience. Preferable to have experience with OEM or Controls Integration company
• Experience in electrical and controls system maintenance & troubleshooting, specifically with PLCs, VFDs, Servos and HMI's. Ability to work with integrator to improve systems or resolve issues.
• Experience with ISA-88 and batch systems
• Experience with ISA-95 networking standards is preferable
• Experience with RSLinx, RSLogix 500/ Studio 5000 Software, and SCADA Software (AVEVA/Factory Talk View).
• Working knowledge of Ethernet IP components and networking.
• Experience troubleshooting: Hydraulics, Valves, Pneumatics, Tooling, Gearboxes, Fanuc Robots, etc
• Innovative, have good technical and mechanical knowledge, and possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
• Experience with cross disciplinary projects (mechanical, process, automation, building)
• Experience within a Food or Processing industry is preferred.
• May require travel up to 20%. Willingness to support international projects is a plus.

Working Conditioons

Working environment is generally favorable and in an office setting. Lighting, temperature and noise levels are adequate with occasional exposure to cold temperatures. Regular entry into the production facility requires Personal Protective Equipment to be worn at all times. This includes a lab coat, hair/beard net, safety glasses, and gloves.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move materials or equipment up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
