ServicePointhas a customer seeking anAutomotive HMI Designerfor a1-year hybrid opportunitylocated inPalo Alto, CA. The schedule isMonday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, withthree days onsite and two days remote, though candidates must be open toweekend work and overtimeas needed. We are looking for a skilledHuman-Machine Interaction (HMI) Designerwith expertise in developingintuitive interfaces for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)andautomated driving applications. The ideal candidate will have experience incomplex automation systems design, with a strong understanding ofautomotive human factors requirementsand the ability to produce thoroughdesign documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and develop user interfaces for ADAS and automated driving systems, ensuring they are intuitive and user-friendly and in compliance with automotive-relevant regulations for instrument cluster and display interfaces. (e.g. ISO26262, ISO 15008, UNR171, UL4600, FMVSS, etc.)
• Perform information requirement analysis to determine essential data for interfaces and ensure these requirements are met in the design.
• Translate complex technical requirements into accessible design solutions to enhance user experience and functionality.
• Document design processes, maintain clear specifications, and ensure effective communication within multidisciplinary teams.
• Ensure all interfaces comply with automotive regulations and standards for HMI in automated driving systems.
• Lead design projects from their conceptual phase to market launch, ensuring cohesive and effective designs.
Key Requirements:
• Strong experience in HMI design specific to automotive environments
• Deep understanding of instrument cluster displays, ADAS, and self-driving systems
• Experience designing for user interaction: visual cues, audio feedback, and communication design
• Background in automotive design with a focus on interaction, not just graphical elements
• Able to define and communicate what is important in a design—focus on user behavior and real-world integration
• Not looking for a traditional graphic designer—needs a system thinker and innovator
• Must be proactive, collaborative, and confident in contributing new ideas (not a “yes” person)
Required Qualifications:
• At least 5 years of experience in an Interaction design role, ideally in the automotive industry
• Experience in information requirement analysis and interface design for complex automation systems, ideally in the automotive industry.
• Strong understanding of automotive and human factors requirements, with proven ability to apply these in practical design solutions.
• Proficiency in using design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, or similar software for creating sophisticated UI/UX designs.
• Familiarity with automotive regulations and industry standards regarding HMI for automated driving and ADAS.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
