Job Description
The HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, assembling, and testing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in both new construction projects and occupied rehab projects.
In this role, you’ll be involved in both the planning and design of mechanical systems as well as hands-on service and maintenance work. This includes working with ductwork, piping, wiring, and equipment, based on project blueprints, mechanical plans, and code requirements to support the ABG mission: to build superior affordable properties that revitalize and strengthen communities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and plan HVAC systems by analyzing requirements, performing load calculations, and selecting equipment to meet code and efficiency standards.
• Service, troubleshoot, and maintain HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance, energy efficiency, and compliance with safety standards.
• Review and interpret mechanical blueprints, HVAC schematics, and construction documents.
• Assist with equipment selection, duct and piping layouts, and material take-offs for bidding and procurement.
• Review contracts and requisitions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications and company standards.
• Conduct site assessments and feasibility evaluations during the planning phase.
• Support Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination and clash detection efforts for HVAC systems.
• Work closely with general contractors and subcontractors during HVAC system installation.
• Ensure HVAC systems are installed to spec, with proper support, insulation, and alignment.
• Review and approve Mechanical Submittals.
• ·Interface with Building Management Systems (BMS) to monitor HVAC operations, implement software updates, and troubleshoot system
• Perform code commissioning reviews and obtains Consultant/DOB sign offs
• Inspect installation of chillers, boilers, rooftop units (RTUs), VAV systems, and other high-capacity mechanical equipment.
• Monitor construction schedules to ensure HVAC installation meets milestones.
• Perform equipment start-up, commissioning support, and functional testing of HVAC systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to system controls, performance, and integration.
• Ensure systems are balanced, efficient, and operating according to blueprint design.
• Provide ongoing service, preventative maintenance, and post-construction warranty support.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED.
• 5 years of HVAC experience in residential construction projects.
• Strong understanding of HVAC codes, construction standards, and mechanical systems.
• EPA 608 Certification.
• Refrigeration Machine Operator (RMO) License / Q-01 License.
• OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
• Familiarity with mechanical drawings, submittals, and shop drawing review processes.
• Hands-on experience with large-scale mechanical equipment: chillers, boilers, pumps, air handlers, RTUs, etc.
• Familiar with Local Laws 33 & 97 (building emissions and energy performance).
• Comfortable working on union or prevailing wage projects, often with Local 638 or other affiliated trades.
• Experience with advanced HVAC systems, including Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) and geothermal system.
• Have working Knowledge of on-line PM programs such as Procore or Jonas Premier.
• Bilingual English and Spanish.

Working Conditions:
In this worksite-based role, you'll work onsite at a defined location(s) around the New York City area, but based out of Yonkers, NY.
