About this Role

Reporting to the Head of Bioprocessing and Manufacturing, the Bioprocess Engineer, Scale-Up and Tech Transfer will work closely with our Bioprocessing, Formulation, QA, an Manufacturing teams to develop and enable scaling and technology transfer to contract manufacturer organizations (CMOs) involved in the production and supply of Indigo’s microbial treatments. This individual will drive continuous improvement efforts in enablement, cost, quality, and consistency with the CMOs by analyzing performance data, identifying opportunities and risks, and executing improvement projects. This role is also responsible for identifying, onboarding, and qualifying new CMOs with capabilities and capacity to supplement and expand our CMO network. This individual will lead key development and validation projects in support of Indigo’s manufacturing strategy. This role is based full-time in our headquarters in Charlestown (Boston), Massachusetts.

What You'll Do

  • Onboarding: Reduce single-source suppliers and expand Indigo’s network globally to reduce logistics complexity and cost.
  • TTP Validation: Data and document review and approval for implementation
  • Piloting/New Process Validation: Oversight of initial implementation of scaled process
  • Scaling Optimization: Modification of TTP to suit CMO capabilities and equipment
  • Batch-Record Review: Iterative review of batch records and productivity modeling
  • Deviation Identification & Troubleshooting: Performing root cause analysis, identification and implementation of a solution
  • Data Generation to Support TTP Changes: If deviations require development, leads development initiative with resourcing from Bioprocessing.

  • 25% Communication (internally & externally)
  • 10%: Modeling equipment
  • 10%: Coordination & logistics (emails, meetings, etc.)
  • 5%: Scoping equipment

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of industry experience as a Process, Production, or Scale-Up Engineer
  • Technology Transfer experience
  • Microbial fermentation (liquid and/or solid state) experience required
  • Experience with standard unit operations at production scales
  • Spray drying and liquid/powder blending experience desired
  • Experience using engineering-design software (modeling, ChemCAD, etc.)
  • BS or MS in ChemE/BioChemE/Biotechnology or similar degree

How We Will Take Care of You

  • Base salary of $110,000 - $145,000 annually 
  • Equity options & annual cash incentives

Pay Transparency Statement

Indigo is committed to competitive and equitable pay for all employees. The listed pay range for this role is a good faith estimate of the hiring range for this position. Compensation offered will be determined based on several factors including an individual’s experience, qualifications, and geographic location.

 

Benefits Statement 

All regular, full-time, permanent employees who work 30 hours or more each week are eligible to enroll in Indigo’s benefits. Additionally, all full-time employees and some part-time employees are eligible for paid time off as outlined above. Based on their role, employees may also be eligible to receive long-term equity incentives and annual cash incentives.
