Building Engineer/HVAC
Hughes Environmental Engineering is one of the largest and most well-regarded HVAC service and engineering firms in the Northern NJ/NYC area. We are a mid-sized, family- owned business with 95 employees, and have been in business since 1935. As we continue our projected growth this year, we are seeking a Building Engineer, HVAC in the Facilities Department.
This is a full time, 40 hour/week position located on site in Newark, NJ.The HVAC Building Engineer is responsible for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing commercial HVAC systems
Full time: M-F, 8:30a – 5:30p (1 hour for lunch)
Qualifications
• Qualified applicants need to be skilled in maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing of commercial HVAC systems
• High School Diploma or GED
• 3+ years in the commercial HVAC industry
• New Jersey Black Seal low pressure boiler operator license (preferred )
• EPA CFC Universal refrigerant handling certification
• Able to communicate through computer email, telephone, two-way radio systems and cell phone
• Able to work with pneumatic and digital controls, hot water and steam boiler distribution systems, chillers and cooling towers
• Able to perform related tasks such as steam trap troubleshooting and replacement, rebuilding pumps, replacing valves and actuators, changing contactors, relays, dampers and transformers, replacing motors and pulleys
• Able to troubleshoot and maintain compressed air and vacuum systems
• Able to work a rotating on call schedule and after-hours emergency response
• Able to work some overtime, weekend and holiday coverage when scheduled
• Able to lift and carry 50 pounds, including up and down stairs
• Strong English written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required
• Competency using tools and operating equipment
• Understands and demonstrates knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and refrigeration codes and practices; coordinates work between and with other trades
• Knowledge of safe operating procedures, such as Lock Out /Tag Out
• Familiarity with building automation systems
• Familiarity with variable frequency drives
• Able to troubleshoot low and high voltage issues (not exceeding 3-phase, 480)
• Ability to understand and apply industry standards for installation, repairs and safety
• Ability to operate power tools and equipment
• Ability to operate computer-based equipment
• Familiarity with computerized CMMS work order software processing
• Adaptability to work in a diverse environment, focusing on customer satisfaction under high-stress conditions, and organize an effective response to day-to-day requirements, and one-of-a-kind extremes
• Responsiveness to supervisory direction, productivity, quality and commitment

Pay: $35.00 - $44.00 per hour
