CLASSIFIED JOB DESCRIPTION Grossmont Union High School District BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE ANALYST Purpose Statement The job of Business Intelligence (Bl) Analyst is for the purpose of analyzing the structured data in the various data systems in use by the Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) and understanding how it can be presented in an informative and useful manner for use evaluating GUHSD performance and making decisions. This position will analyze and organize data as necessary to support Bl solutions and will use Bl tools to create, evolve, and maintain a variety of interactive dashboards, charts, graphs, and timelines. Directly Reports To: Executive Director, Educational Technology Services Essential Functions • Design dashboards, visualizations, etc., as required to meet the data access and analysis needs of GUHSD administrators, teachers and other staff members, specifically with regard to student academic performance. • Publish dashboards, visualizations, charts, graphs, etc., as required to meet the need to provide the public with visibility into the performance of GUHSD schools. • Perform analysis of Bl needs in support of main GUHSD structured data systems including, but not limited to, human resources, finance, and student data. In addition, deploy dashboards that monitor the utilization of various technical infrastructure components. • Evaluate and analyze GUHSD structured data systems for the purpose of understanding data relationships, volatility, and utility in Bl solution design and development. • Evaluate and analyze data used by the California Department of Education (COE) when presenting information to the public and measuring the performance of school districts for the purpose of establishing internal Bl solutions that provide an operational and real-time preview of data as it will be seen and used by COE. • Identify data maintained in the GUHSD's various structured data systems that can be used to support a Bl solution. • Identify data that must reside in the GUHSD data warehouse to support a Bl solution. • Define the structure and relationships of data in the GUHSD data warehouse to support a Bl solution. • Create business procedures that will cause the refresh of GUHSD's data warehouse, as needed, from various structured data systems. • Create procedures that de-normalize data in the data warehouse for use in a Bl solution. Create procedures that export data from the GUHSD's data warehouse into the appropriate Bl environment as necessary to meet Bl solution needs. • Manage GUHSD's Bl environment(s) with regard to size, frequency, volatility, and refresh rates of data used in the various Bl solutions. • Monitor the status of the GUHSD's Bl environment with regard to data import, data availability, performance, version upgrades, general performance, etc. • Manage user security with regard to access to Bl work product, how work product is published and visible, and, access to underlying data and format. • Perform other related duties as necessary to ensure Bl system availability, effectiveness, efficiency, and security. • Engage with other team members and district staff as necessary to address Bl or other system and data related issues. • Ability to present complex information in an understandable and compelling way. • Excellent communication, problem solving, analytical and creativity skills. • Perform related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: •Bachelor's Degree or Industry Standard Certificate in a related discipline • Three (3) years of experience using enterprise-level visualization, discovery and Bl tools • Three (3) years of experience using enterprise-level Bl tools to develop reports and dashboards Working Environment: Work will be performed in an indoor setting. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling , some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. This job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
