Carpenter

Established theatrical scenery shop is seeking carpenters to join our team! POSITION TYPE:This is a full-time position. Standard hours are from 6am to 2:45pm, Monday through Friday. Increases in workload may require adjustments to a typical work schedule and/or overtime. SUMMARY:Produce various timber-based products and structures using a variety of common wood shop tools such as saws, routers, and pneumatic guns; maintaining quality and safety standards. Carpenters also prepare wooded structures for paint using various wood filling products such as wood putty, spackle, and Bondo. Carpenters will also be responsible for the bonding of wood products to metal sub frames and other types of substructures including plastics and acrylics. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Intermediate carpentry skills are required. Experience in carpentry or set construction is preferred. • Openness to learning new techniques and processes related to theatrical set construction. • Ability to cut and shape various timber-based products and sheet goods using common shop tools such as saws, routers, and planers safely and efficiently. • Ability to use various bonding techniques and products such as nails, screws, and adhesives to construct a wide variety of structures. • Ability to read and comprehend build drawings to accurately construct a wide variety of structures. • Ability to properly communicate between various departments to accurately construct a variety of structures. • A general understanding of common carpentry techniques relative to framing, finishing, lamination, and cabinetry. • Adherence to safety protocols and practices within the workshop environment. • Providing a basic set of hand tools common to a carpenter such as: Tape measures, hammer, chisels, squares, wrenches, hand saws, etc. • Ability to work a flexible work schedule and/or overtime as needed based on business demands. • Ability to clean and maintain various shop tools. PREQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:High school graduate with basic to intermediate carpentry knowledge. PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:Trade school certification. OSHA 10 certification.
