Job Description

JOB Definition:Under direct supervision from the Carpentry Supervisor, provides skilled carpentry services in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) construction and maintenance projects. Assists in inspection, installation and construction and repairs of structural woodwork in accordance with building and safety code regulations. This job class is treated as FLSA Non-exempt. Essential Functions: (Essential functions may vary among positions, but may include the following tasks, knowledge, abilities, skills, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions in this classification.) EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Assist in constructing and repairing structural woodwork and equipment in an establishment, working from blueprints, drawings, work orders, or oral instruction.Assist in building, repairing and installing counter, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, windows, doors, building framework, and trim.Safely operates electrical/power/manual tools and equipment, including but not limited to generators and compressors, and other equipment used in the carpentry portions of SRPMIC construction and maintenance projects. Hand tools may include, but are not limited to: hammer, drill, table saw, Skilsaw, Cope Saw, Speed Square, Tape Measure, Sawsall, Miter Saw, Utility knife, Tool bags.Loads and unloads equipment and materials at job sites; drives to and from job site. Operates pickup truck, forklift, or crane, as well as other equipment directed by supervisor.Measures, cuts, lifts and fastens lumber, drywall, roofing, insulation, doors, windows, cabinets and trim in the construction and maintenance of single family housing, Community buildings, and SRPMIC infrastructure.Assists in inspecting new woodwork installations for conformity to building and safety codes.Assists in preparing material inventory lists for housing and construction.Assists in the verification of trueness of structures with plumb bob and carpenters' level.Assists in the preparation of layout, using ruler, framing square and calipers.Reads and follows sketches, diagrams or blueprints showing location of carpentry fixtures or equipment.Assists in coordinating carpentry work with other construction trades.Removes abandoned materials as necessary to provide construction and maintenance of single family housing, Community buildings, and SRPMIC infrastructure.Performs other job related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental operation. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics: Knowledge of general policies, procedures and standards followed in construction trades.Knowledge of current OSHA rules and regulations; knowledge of current building and safety codes.Knowledge of proper use of carpentry equipment and tools, including entry-level knowledge in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and sketches.Knowledge of carpentry methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment related to construction and maintenance of single family housing, Community buildings, and SRPMIC infrastructure.Knowledge of carpentry principles, concepts and practices related to construction and maintenance of single family housing, Community buildings and SRPMIC infrastructure.Skill and accuracy in measuring, cutting and fastening lumber, drywall, roofing and trim in the construction and maintenance of single family housing, Community buildings, and SRPMIC infrastructure.Skill in the proper inspection, installation and repair of carpentry fixtures and equipment.Skill in safely operating electrical/power/manual tools and equipment.Ability to work in dirt and dusty conditions.Ability to work in weather-exposed situation.Ability to work at heights up to 50 feet.Ability to follow oral or written instructions.Ability to lift, stand, bend, stoop and carry objects, including but not limited to carpentry tools, materials and equipment, weighing 50 - 90 pounds and to otherwise physically perform and complete carpentry tasks as directed by supervisor.
